I think the natural evolution will be exactly that with the addition of NATO becoming less relevant to European countries, I actually think this is a positive thing to be honest as I really do believe we should be significantly less reliant on the US moving forward. Its not to say they aren't a good ally but they follow their own agenda which isn't always for the benefit of Europe

Not only that but another Trump puts everyones security at risk should they suddenly withdraw
Maybe Trump promised Putin he would so that Putey could take back the old USSR states ;)

So basically for all Trump's retohoric he's actually doing the opposite. "Make US stronger" but in reality making them weaker by strengthening enemies. What he should have done is made south America friendly so he doesn't have Russia sat on their doorstep.

I suspect NATO will become more important as the US attempts to maintain it's number one spot under influence of the other two nations - they will also have top work with the Chinese.

Non-serious observation: I think Putin and Xi both have dreams of being Emperor Shaddam from Dune. Putting favouring the Sadaukar approach.

In seriousness I fully expect there to be more dynamics in play over the next 100 years. a lot more innovation to combat threats and more war.

Russias ability to wage war is severly compromised now.

The word is watching this superpower being humiliated by a far superior army on the ground.

Nato would win a ground and air war pretty easy if this conflict is anything to go by.

Putin has had to resort to threating nuclear war because he knows they are weak, he is now seing it play out in front of his eyes.

He must be thinking bloody hell why isn't this over already.

When this is over Russia will have to rebuild from the ground up. They need to invest in better military equipment which is pretty obvious.

It's makes you wonder what the do with all that oil and gas money, it's obviously sent straight to the inner circles bank accounts.

By any luck the will run out of shells, I think I saw somewhere that their ability to make new equipment is severly compromised by lack of materials. Hope thats true.

I would caveat that this is far from Russia's best and they've tried to do this minimising involvement of their active standing armed forces as well.

That said seeing the number of instances of T-90 tanks which have broken down or been taken out by relatively light damage, and they've not fielded many of them, it begs a lot of questions of their main forces state to fight.

EDIT: The videos today of the state of Kharkiv this morning though gives a glimpse of the way Russia likes to fight.

Surely Russia would want to move their 'near best' forces into Ukraine though? To be successful?

I bet putin is simply going to stave his people, UN aid will have to step in - only driving up the demand for food/energy, Putin attempting to weaken the west.

I agree that NATO will become less relevant. That actually poses an issue for the UK as we won't be part of the EU army.

.
Xi's ambitions are the Taiwan and the south China seas which he wants badly. I though he would be waging war on Taiwan by now but then again USA are obliged to help there so keeping hiw away for now.

China would be a serious threat though, shear numbers and modern equipment would be a threat to the US and Nato combined.

have we seen javelins take out any T-90s? The US would be very interested in that.

I think the T-90 is supposed to have some sort of active defense mechanisms against missile attacks but no idea if they work or not

I'm no expert but I'd say we've seen plenty evidence to show the T90 is nothing more than a steal coffin.

They said that about Russia too. No doubt China in its backyard would be tough given the high level of patriotism over there, they would be able to muster vast numbers of (ill trained) infantry

But force projection, thats a different story - Russia is struggling to project power into its land based neighbour, nevermind across the sea. China does have the advantage of having more money than Russia though so that could help them

..and the EU would be immune to the nukes because?
MAD.

There is a very real difference between the EU defending a non-EU country and the EU defending an EU state. If the EU doesn't defend its own territory then you may as well bend over now and hand Poo Tin the lube.

I've not seen footage of T-90s vs ATGMs and the likes yet - only images of the aftermath and videos of disabled or abandoned ones being destroyed.
