If we haven't forgotten about it why is London the capital of Russian money laundering and why are the Tories taking millions from Russian oligarchs?

London is a large financial centre... as for the Tories and their donors, that's perhaps for an SC containment thread, it's not particularly interesting or relevant here.

They will be out of drinking water and food soon, then what are they going to do? Stagger into the city on foot for the last 15miles and do an old fashion charge? Lol

I can’t believe this is happening, stalled because of logistics and mud.

Logistics and support is everything in war, people put far to much focus on the number of tanks etc, but without everything else they are largely meaningless.

I'd always thought how does Russia manage to have such a massive military, apparently fielding and developing all this new tech given how much they spend, now we seem know why and the reality of the situation.

Interesting thread. Lets hope he's right
Indeed. And yet the more true it is, the more likely Putin is to unleash something horrific, even if that's "only" battlefield nukes to try and induce a WWII Japanese style surrender. I'm not convinced NATO would react to that... would dare react to that, because it makes the step up to lobbing ICBMs so much closer.

It's horrible decisions all the way with this. And we can be sure that the Ukrainians are suffering more than they're letting on, especially if Russian special forces are operating terror squads to sow paranoia.

While I'm waffling into the night, I keep wondering what kind of DJI-style consumer drone could be fitted with a small explosive device. Imagine "every" home in Ukraine having access to such a device with a simple "touch to crash drone here" camera screen. It's be crude and slow and easily shot down. But numbers count and I keep thinking about those displays at the Olympics. Turn every citizen into a member of the defence isn't wise if you want to stop armies targeting civilians, and terrorists would have a field day, but... But it's past my bed time.

Edit: Ok, this may have been posted already, but if it hasn't...

What I don't get is this, Putin's latest publicised pseech bangs on about basically letting him win Ukraine otherwise nobody wins (again insinuating a nuclear outcome...).

But given the state of the Russian economy which experts say has gone beyond recovery now, what exactly does he plan to do /if/ he attains Ukraine? There isn't any economy left to rebuild and repopulate Ukraine and none of the sanctions will be lifted if he does get his way so he basically ends up with a paperweight of a country and those who fled will remain long term in their host countries as refugees and beyond.

I remember hearing a few weeks ago that if the Russians were to invade then they had a narrow window due to worsening conditions on the ground (frozen ground turning to mud).

Maybe the Olympics causing a delay will be the downfall of Putin.

No such thing as "beyond recovery", other parts of the world will line up to do trade with him and would love some cheap gas.

He does not want to attain Ukraine, he does not have the manpower to occupy a country that size which will be in a hostile state, Ukraine need to push him back because the other outcome is him to flatten it then hand it back.

I'm going to type something distasteful BUT... If "we" are not prepared to go to war, which we are not.. i am certainly not.. then Ukraine must understand the reasons why and repercussions if we did what they ask. I dont think anyone wants to test Putins mettle , not yet.

Yes its war and absolutely terrible, yes its going to get worse, but these condemnations of NATO by the president and others is ridiculous.
Its sick but right now Russia is fighting with restraint...This will hopefully not escalate.

Heartless but this isn't genocide....

I know its Fd Up..

We went to war for oil, world is f'd.

Oh, they are considering giving planes? Does Ukraine still have control of intact air fields?

The only thing that would make any sense to me would be the likes of Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia, to name a few off the top of my head, that are NATO members with MiG-29’s giving some of theirs to the Ukrainian Air Force. It wouldn’t take help giving them F-16’s for example, seeing as they have no experience of operating or maintaining them.

Another plus with giving them the likes of MiG-29’s is that they’re also designed to operate from make shift runways, just look at how rugged their landing gear is compared to say, an F-16, plus they have shutters that close the main air intakes when there’s weight on the wheels, with the engines taking air from louvres that open on the wing roots instead to prevent them sucking up debris and destroying their engines while operating from an unprepared runway.

The Russians are struggling because they did a surprise attack, yet the only ones who were surprised were their own soilders so they were completely unprepared.

It’s incredibly relevant and interesting. It’s vital that we know who is funding and who has influence over our leaders. Doubly so in wartime.

Something I read from Pistonheads but still valid regarding why those countries won't be sending planes to the Ukraine any time soon despite social media hype about it -

So far, only the Slovak's & Poles have done a deal to replace their MiG-29's, Slovakia with new build F-16, and Poland with new build F-35A. Slovakia's first F-16's are not due to be delivered for another 11-12 months so, understandable why they don't won't to let go of their MiG's in the current situation, and likewise, the first Polish F-35A isn't due for delivery until 2024, so again, no chance of them letting their MiG's go either.

The Bulgarian's haven't even signed for any replacement of theirs, and as of last year were being forced to look to keeping their Fulcrum's in service for another 5+ years at least, so again, no surprise it was a no from them.

So no-one, whilst a shooting war is occurring along NATO countries borders, is going to be giving up their aircraft, leaving themselves with very limited numbers, without their own replacements arriving first which will take a few years to happen.
