Combating energy prices

Had my insulation turn up today, this will be going on the inside of my walls upstairs as I have a tile clad house, so single brick, felt, tile, so in the winter it's cold and in the summer it gets hot and stays hot.

Just stud work and a skim over the plasterboard.

Yeah this, lose about 6cm off a couple of walls in each room but they all need decorating/plastering anyway. The benefit should be considerable with new rads. I pulled the first one off last week. Inspected in 1972....

In hindsight I should’ve probably done this. Getting on the property ladder is an expensive game.

Celotex, plasterboard and the wood is about £900 so not a great deal but with energy prices I reckon should pay for itself in 4 years finger in the air.

Its not noticeable at all if its done right.
It is, plus you get a better paint finish. Believe it of not the plaster also helps with other things like structural integrity, sound proofing and insulation. A good plastering job vrs a good tape and filling job is far superior. It's just simple logic.

It all depends on the person's tolerance though. If you as a customer are happy with tape and fill than that is fine but don't tell me that it's a better or even equal job because it's simply not.

There is a reason why plasterers are still plastering
. They are not cheap either.

They are still plastering because not all walls are suitable for taping, but the finish is just as good, and if you think a tiny layer of plaster adds to 'structural integrity'....:cry:

Every additional layer adds to structural integrity, its how composite systems work. If you dont understand this ....:cry:

have you had this strategy assessed .. done some moisture analysis, such that it will not give any damp issues ? .. or, maybe, just a trial room initially.

- on daily cycle route , tiled house, had outer tiling removed and I assumed an external gapped battened insulation layer, and is now rendered.

Yes, all worked out and done a lot of reading and research before committing to ensure it won't give any issues with damp. Vapour barrier will be installed as well. Have had persistent damp issues in the house - regularly 65-70% humidity in the winter despite having PIV. Aircon installed now which has helped more and should help going forward. If it did cause issues, it can't be worse than we get currently!

pay off my credit card and loan as quickly as possible and use the money i would have been paying back on those to pay for gas and electric. We already run the house pretty efficiently so there aren't many savings to be had beyond insulating the loft some more. Detached houses are always going to be more on the expensive side to run.

We're pretty good at saving energy so it's a matter of cutting outgoings. I've cancelled BT Sport so far with Sky to follow shortly. I was going to do both these things anyway but it makes even more sense now.

It's interesting to see a fair few comments regarding people dropping "luxury" outgoings to accommodate the price rises. Obvious when you think about it, but it does highlight the hit that the wider economy will take i.e Sky, Netflix etc.

It also highlights, if you want to see it that is, just how hard it will be for those that don't have any "luxury" expenses to eliminate first.

Eat or be warm is a real prospect.
