I was wondering that and was going to check the detail when the detail was released. I expected it to be this way but has it been confirmed?

Sums up this Govt in many ways tbh

If it is taxable income then again it benefits the room in your house scenario again as that would come under the rent a room relief (£7.5k tax free) but not if it's a whole house, where it'd all be taxable income, after expenses.
Again what is your problem? It is a scheme to provide accommodation for as many Ukrainian refugees as can be catered for by people willing to give. Not a money making scheme on commercial terms.

Considering the near direct link between high food prices and instability in authoritarian regimes, I wonder how many civil wars will (re)occur as a result of this?

I think Ukraine will be stronger, politically and socially after this. One of the things it does is make the Ukrainians stand on their own two feet - not be reliant on any country/trade agreement.

If China helps Russia then the Ukrainian 1/3rd foodstuffs trade to China would be seen as under threat. I suspect if Russia want China then they will say the only way to protect your food stuff supply is to help. Russia may even see the foodstuffs producing areas as a primary goal along with the gas/oil reserves.

It will be interesting because Russia has bankrupted itself to the Chinese bankers whom have their own economic issues (housing/food) so negotiations will be tough. What we're seeing is a country that has fallen for the belt-and-road strategy, and we'll now see the effect of Chinese investment in the control and manipulation of the Russian system.

Russia are probably asking for Chinese semiconductors to manufacture more weapons. As said previously, Russia have designed most of the Chinese weapons and it's only now China has skills to produce their own aircraft carriers etc.

Anyone that can afford to do it should and has space to help, these people are angels in my book that are will and able to help. I have nothing wrong with it at all I wish I could do the same but can't, my issue is the government has basically made the UK citizens that are able to help into more debt the £350 token is again worthless and with the new higher bills and food prices it means nothing the £350 if you take in a family, think about it a family of 4 or 3 and you think the £350 will help ? Even one person will be a tight one to help.. It's a joke by the government.

Anyone helping and willing to take on extra burdens now to help is an angel, but most of us in uk are freaking out about our bills and the wages now are worthless for most people and many of us are laughed at when mentioning a pay rise.
As I have said above it is accommodation only, not food cost, as benefits will be payable to the refugee family and they will be allowed to work.

I don't think WW3, more economic "WW" with a lot of rebalancing.

I do see China as being a heavyweight, same as the US. I see the EU and RU running in the "runners up" before the rest of the world. I think the US understands china's problems and vice versa (from a keeping people fed and ensuring trade POV).

I don't think China wants a WW3 or an economic-WW as it's economy is pretty fragile, so we're likely to see a lot more proxy influence wars in Africa, Middle East and South America.

There is the question of the SE China sea. However I think these resources will become a key strategic issue.

Thank you, Nick. Fingers crossed then that a full out world war never ever happens. Excuse my lack of knowledge, what is a proxy influenced war?

The problem you see is that tactically the war is fluidity could have been blown up by Putin's troops at any point and for any reason. I don't think the initial priority of a paratrooper is to blow up a plane.

So the inference is that Ukrainians blew the thing up, that could also be a denial of asset tactic but it's also true the other way around. Eitherway a loss to then aircraft community.

My problem is £350 is not enough and a disgrace. It's not about the people helping, they should be funded more to cover other things too not just £350 until these people if able to work can get a part time job while here, but you can't expect everyone to be able to work here, some are kids and not even with their parents. Think about it a little. The accommodation is one thing to help with but what about everything else people don't live on thin air.

Also you edited your comment about benefits, there was no mention of it or people getting a job. Again how long till they get benefits and how much and again most people in uk on benefits can't afford daily life, do you realise benefits are a bad joke too ?

That is why local authorities are being funded at 10k per refugee for support services, schooling etc., on top of the 350 monthly housing allowance paid to 'hosts'.

Proxy influence war is where there's local conflict over territory or resources where the two sides are given favourable economic trade or military aid by either US or China with the agreement that supply of resources pay for the aid or the cost of resources is cheaper for a duration and more obstacles are installed to trade/supply to the opposing side. It may also be that the country agrees to buy gas/oil from that funding state too.

Because leaving it to the goodness of the few charitable people who can either afford it or have a 'spare property' (lol?) seems to be indicative of this Govts attitude to this refugee crises in general.

Anyway, there can't be that many free spaces according to some since "wE'rE fUll AnYwaY"

I think what people are getting at, is there is a large number of affluent people in the country with spare rooms who would have accepted a refugee for 6 months regardless of any financial contribution from the government. My wife and myself were discussing this (we don't have kids, can afford it etc.) before the mention of £350 per month. I think the government has actually misjudged the kindness of the UK population. I doubt the incentive was needed.

I smell the strategy of the Conservatives to push refugees away from the major cities - the result is all the labour constituencies up north get a influx of refugees and they then pressure the conservatives to reduce immigration again.. meanwhile the southern Tory strongholds remain pristine with no riff-raff camped on their lawns.

So why is the Health Secretary spouting this?

It's like Javid is attempting to do one over on Truss and Boris on the international stage for his own political career.

Seriously - where is the professionalism in the Tory party?

Truss did it with Boris, now Javid is doing it.

Show support and not random spouting about missiles - leave that to the defence secretary Mr Ben and Boris-from-Ben. (If I remember his surname!)
