Hi all,

I was just wondering would I see any improvement to range and latency/responsiveness with a new cheap router like a Tenda AC6 AC1200 or a D-Link R15 EAGLE PRO or a HUAWEI AX3 AX3000?

Don't want to spend a lot as only have 30mb internet but have quite a few devices and not sure if new cheap router would be better?

Thanks for any info

I guess the simple question is would a cheap new router be better the a 9 year old high end router? Is it the same as if you had a top of the range phone from 9 years ago it would be junk now compared to a budget new one?

I have the same router and for my use will probably only upgrade when I need to take advantage of 2.5gb ethernet. Wireless wise I see no need to upgrade as long as the security protocols remain relevant. That said, I am in the same boat as you, I know nothing about modern cheap routers wireless performance, I guess it is very much a case your own environment/walls in your house etc, but for me wireless performance is adequate as is.

Having an AC/5Ghz router would improve your latency a lot when you're close by that's for sure.
I recommend the Archer C6 V3.2, should be around ~£35

Hmmm thanks for info guys, what about WiFi 6 routers, I guess no benefit apart from unless I get a WiFi 6 mobile or something?

Maybe an even more stable latency when you're close by with an AX router vs an AC.
Other than that with the bandwidth you have available it won't be too different to AC/5Ghz.

Can't really say how much better it will be vs your existing router in terms of range with 2.4Ghz
Depends how much transmit power (dBm) your existing one is running at, the 2.4Ghz range could potentially be better aswell.
