Blair was very much from the Realpolitik school of thought, and like so many others he thought that the best way to get Russia to be peaceful (at least outside of terrorising their own citizens) was to ensure its economy was thoroughly enmeshed with other nations - the McDonald's school of peace if you will. In hindsight it has proved a failed plan but I'm not convinced that it was predictable that it would fail and, even if it was, it's not like the UK to decide the overall course of the Western approach to Russia.

China can't afford to get too involved, they going to risk trade with the whole world vs being mates with Russia, doubtful. Also given what they plan on doing in Taiwan it would be stupid to do too much now, America will just pile on them even harder when time comes.

I had a quick chat with my wife about it yesterday. We'd need to move two of the kids to share a bedroom, so we need to think about it.

Indeed, we’d tank our own economies into oblivion if we sanctioned China in any meaningful way.
Or, in China's view, they see an opportunity to tilt the global power balance in their direction. China have probably sold weapons and or services to belligerents and occupiers in all kinds of conflicts, it's part and parcel of their mercantilism that they have been engaged with for decades.
Yeh it's just me and my Mrs so it would be a lot easier for us. We have a large spare room and a smaller room which is currently my PC room, it would be an ok kids room if I moved the pc to the dinning room. I said I'd be willing to host 1 adult 1 child.

we already have 3 adults all time and an additional 3 children every weekend in a little 2 bed house so no room unfortunately. We did try and help a couple out during Covid with rent free for 6 months but that was super difficult and they were on sofa bed so have been there.

Easier to get those into the country. Hope they get a boat load.
China probably doesn't like being told what they can and can't do by America.
China holds the world over an economic barrel anyway, our way of life would pretty much cease over night and everyone would enter recessions massive ones if China got Sanctioned.
It's pretty much economic suicide.
China is literally becoming the worlds #1 thanks to short sighted greed and capitalism, Corporations should have started pulling out 10 years ago if not earlier.
I suspect no corporation really sees any allegiance to any country and they will always do what's best for themselves, I'm sure they are quite happy to sit and wait then suddenly become pro Chinese when it suits their interests.

Other than my car I’m not sure what else I own that wasn’t made in China tbh.
Should fly them at night to military buildings in Russia see how they like it!
