Maybe one of those aircrafts that the Russians decided to keep following the start of the war and now using domestically.
They probably don't know how to change its identity. I wonder when the first will drop out of the sky to satisfy Putins propaganda.

FlightRadar24 had a funny few minutes just now - kicked me off for a bit and some data didn't update immediately on changing which aircraft(s) were your focus so you might have been seeing incorrect data.

And if it hadn’t been for one Russian Lieutenant Colonel being smart enough to figure out that the missile launch detection alarm that went off was an equipment malfunction on the 26th of September that year, we might have seen what a Soviet first strike looked like on the receiving end.

Although that event pre-dated Able Archer 83 by a month or so it was during the Reforger 83 exercise and at a point of extreme paranoia between both sides of the Iron Curtain, I was growing up in West Germany at the time and even as a 14 year old I could sense the tension in the squaddies we grew up surrounded by. We really are lucky that it was realised as a system glitch as the whole geopolitical situation was a tinder box thanks, in no small part, to an extremely bellicose POTUS in the form of Ronald Reagon thoroughly supported by Margaret Thatcher.

I wouldn't have chosen to pick up on it, but since it's been picked up on: the objection to "the Ukraine" is that it is a Russian framing of the country, describing it as a region of Russia rather than an independent nation. You can see why people are touchy about it right now?
No it isn’t. It’s not ‘Russian’.
From someone who lives in the UK.

Christ you’ve been in too many pro noun threads.

I didn't say it was Russian, I said it was a Russian framing. It's traditionally been the way we refer to it in Britain, and many other countries (in German it was "die Ukraine") but that "the" comes from a Russian way of speaking about it. Just as in English we refer to "the Cotswolds" or "the fens" to refer to parts of our country, "the Ukraine" comes from Russian's speaking of Ukraine as a region rather than an independent nation, this Ukraine has for some time asked others to drop the "the" (or "die" or whatever) from their name.

Translation: he's looking for someone to blame after he was stupid enough to believe he was talking to the Ukrainian PM and let the cat out of the bag

Hello Ben, thanks for taking my call. Can you give me a quick update on how our secret plan is progressing please? You know, the one we absolutely must not let the Russians find out about...

Same as I always think of say the Isle of Wight for some reason the Ukraine comes easily. However given his capitalisation, the rest of the post and related posts earlier, I think he was being contemptuous with the The.

Just saw:

Home Secretary Priti Patel later revealed she had also recently been targeted by a hoax caller.

"This also happened to me earlier this week," she posted in response to Mr Wallace's tweet.

Talk about lax security - one attempt at it should have had red flags up and measures in place, absolutely inexcusable lack of joined up communications/organisation.

I wonder if Boris is still using the same phone number he once published on the internet.
I bet he already answered all the questions :D
