Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO pump noise?

Hey all,

I recently bought from overclockers a Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO Cooler (the one with the SL120 fans) for going in the setup im building, its to replace an old (but perfectly fine) NZXT Kracken X61.

Everything about it is dandy, the colour, works fine, looks great and im happy with the cooler, looks and performance.

However, even through my headset i can constantly hear a background whine that changes in pitch every 10-20 seconds that the NZXT did not have.

I have ruled out the fans by unplugging a bank at a time to test but the whine remains there. I should add that the rad is top mounted and the pump under.

I have had a look on the internet and have noticed that some people have experienced the same and others have not?

Could this be a fault or is it likely to be present on all the Pumps? Its just one of these piercing background sounds that is getting a little annoying :/

Any insight appreciated. Thanks

I like you found that a lot of mixed reports existed online, I must just have got lucky.

Painful as it is, just rma it.

I got the one with the Unifans, unsure if any diff.

Cheers folks.

Got in touch with over clockers and the two helpful folk i spoke to have sorted me out with an RMA to investigate further.

Hopefully can get it fixed or a non noisey one instead as I really like the product!

When my Galahad AIO 240 was faulty. Pump failure as it couldn't keep my temps down. I RMA'ed directly with Lian Li and they shipped out a new one to me directly in about a week. They didn't want my old one back, nor did they want me to cut the pipes or do something silly like that (NZXT). My replacement one came with the LGA 1700 as well which is a bonus.

Replacement still going strong.

How long had you had yours before it gave up the ghost?

Thats alright, fair play to Lian-Li for their service, I have heard good things about them as a company which is why I went with their products (Case, fans, cooler so far)

Yeah their service has been good to me so far. I had all 9 of my SL120 fans replaced as well due to the blue led issue without question as well.

My Galahad 240 just bit the dust as well, pump failure too so I’m back on a regular heat sink for now! A bit disappointing given it wasn’t mounted the ‘wrong way’ either. My last Asustek based one was still working as it did in the first day 5 years in.

I bought it when OCUK first got them in, good to hear Lian Li sort it reasonably quickly though, I’ll get in touch.

My 13month old 360 Galahad looks like it has given up :(

BIOS cpu temps at 70+ I've changed the thermal paste and it's the same. I've taken it out of the case, turned upside down etc to see if ity will free up any air bubbles?

I can hear it spinning if I put my ear close to it.

I've contacted OC asking for an RMA.

I didn't send anything back, it's still on the floor of my 'office' :p

Mine was a total pump failure so they (Lian Li) just sent a new unit, sans fans.

I've been given an RMA and free DPD return. So far so good. Did you send everything back? I replaced the fans on mine with the SL120s.

It was confirmed faulty. Great
OC let me know i'd be getting a B grade return. No great.
OC sent me a white (mine was black) 2nd hand one. Really not great.

I'm going to ask for a refund.

The pump on mine appears to be failing, temps have steadily been increasing up to around 60°c in the BIOS with pump RPM above 2600. Any all core workload takes the temp up to 90°c and throttles the clocks below 3.9Ghz, all with max fan and pump speed. It's 13 months old, I've emailed Lian-Li but seeing your post @john_smith I take it OCUK would deal with it directly? I'll see what Lian-Li say either way.

It's a shame because it's been fantastic until this point, looks great and cools well (although always had some pump whine above a certain percentage, similar to what GN reported in their review). Having said that when working well it wasn't an issue.

[Edit] Lian-Li were happy with the video and photos I've sent them and are sending a replacement pump which will arrive within 3 weeks. Pretty happy with that service, just hope they've tweaked the design so the new one doesn't fail too.

I've lost confidence with the unit. There's too many failures if you look into them and I don't want to be here in a year asking for another replacement. I asked OC for a refund, they have offered me £117 as the unit is over 6 months old. I CBA to argue with them over it so have accepted.
