NVIDIA: Gamers Spend $300 More on Ampere GPUs Than Previous Gen

I had a 1070 and true to form i always skip generations so was planning on getting a 3080, but crap hit the fan and the supply died. I waited a while and ended up getting a 6800XT for 900 quid, it left a sour taste but not long after the prices went up to 1300! I think at one point here in Poland the price of a 6800xt hit nearly 2k, it was insane!

Someone normal i.e not Jensen, Would look at this and think "Yeah people are getting fleeced, We should charge a sane amount instead of being overly greedy" yes I know a companies main objective is to make money as that is what they worship but it gets to a point of it being overly greedy.

Jensen and his fellow directors are busy talking up the share price. That means they can sell the shares for a tidy profit, (number of recent sells v buys of the Nvidia directors) Director Share Dealings - NVIDIA Corp (hl.co.uk)

Looks like Jenson had to sell a few shares in March to be able to afford a 3090

In an ideal world, Jenson would get very poor sales so he'd hold a board meeting and say "we really messed up guys, our 4000 series needs to be much cheaper".

Instead, you're spending $300 more! Jenson would be a rubbish CEO to cut prices when he had RECORD SALES.

It's the customers fault the prices are high for being so gullible "oh you've increased the prices. That's okay, I'll pay whatever you say. I'm your biggest fan and I promise to love you forever and ever".

Gullible is as intelligent as being aware and knowing.

We can all point fingers and call people this or that but in truth we are all susceptible to the same issues with our humanity and that we are flawed.
If humans were perfect life would cease to exist as would any enjoyment and sorrow, life is beautiful and colorful when we take it as it is, no matter how flawed.

The gullible enjoy their time not knowing the future implications and is based on luck and letting life be.

When we think we have got it, it slips right through our fingers, humans as intelligent as they are seem to rely on the naivety of others, this helps to product a functioning world.
Fear can be used for good or bad, having some fear means you have some restraint, no fear and you can do anything even to a detriment.

In truth the all knowing person is just as in detriment as the person living without it.
They need each other: balance.

Hey we can argue over Vram and all sorts, none of it matters. It only matters to those who think they can control life.

Everything ends up in philosophy of life it's self. There is no objective truth. Just as there is no perfection, but merely the perception that something could be perfect, that too to a detriment... ask those people who want perfect partners who end up single and lone.

Not caring means you cared and are jaded, it requires now the opposite to fix you, but that is from willingness from within to project and signal this want.

I am in a state of mental calm and absolute zeal this morning, I thought I would share this.
The bigger picture helps to invigorate the mind when we are lost in the details of every day life.

Everything is a projection from within upon the canvas that is life.

I hear what you're saying, but the skew in what people paid was made mostly by miners, as they purchased them to produce money, so there was simply a longer return to garner the cost of the card. FArms buying by the pallet direct from the middle men is where the money was made. I'm unsure how much in the beginning AMD & Nvidia profited, but didnt want to miss out after a while. Why let the middle men make all the profit, raise the price to them so AMD & Nvidia get the slice of the pie from mining.

Seeing as consoles now do 4k, if prices go north of £1k for the 4080, then folk will be looking at the 30 series still as they are very capable. The only reason you will want a high end 40 series is if you run very high resolutions such as 4k or UWUHD with high refresh. Even then the current cards will do a fair job of running them. If you must reach 120hz+ at those resolutions then get your wallet out but many will turn to consoles, as you could get both the PS5 and the Series X for £1k. I was surprised at the RRP cost of the consoles to be honest. Thought they would have been a couple of £100 more for the 4k capability. It'll also be down to what a 3080 fetches when the 4000 series gets released with regard to mining.

Gonna have to be an enthusiast for the 4000 series.

you say this but it's been proven false year after year when people upgrade every generation even though realistically there is little gain in doing so. The enthusiasts have no logic when it comes to expenditure

you don't seem to understand how capitalism works.
The CEO has a legal obligation to serve the shareholders.

I wonder how many people would counter a job offer and request *less* pay.

This is what we are suggesting companies do when we expect them to lower prices when customers are clearly offering to pay more.

Funny how "gamers" seem to have lost a lot of interest now that mining profitability has tanked.

Yes, there's a lot of spin. Unfortunately everyone is trying to squeeze every last penny out of everything at the moment. I blame that guy who came up with the idea of removing one olive from every airline meal to save $000's. Now they're all at it!

their only concern is how much they can charge you this time round to not put you off in future. Always will charge as much as they can get away with that's how businesses work and they don't even care if they put people off buying as long as it's still projected to increase profits in future

No I do but the excuse of "bUt iT's cApaTiLiSm" is over used and old, They can still make a tidy profit and pay all their fat old privileged men while being a little more affordable.

And the CEO could find themselves in jail for defrauding the share holders.

Also, you need to define affordable. Given the record breaking sales, the market has proven that the GPUs are affordable.

Should Ferrari sell their cars at the sane price as a Clio, do they can be "affordable"?

what a stupid argument, its more like taking a clio, swapping the label to say ferrari and charging ferrari price

Yep, It amazes me that everyday working people argue FOR big business and to have high prices, It's like the turkey voting for christmas.

Would you refuse higher pay if your employer affered it?

Why should any company take less than what people are willing to pay?
