Can’t believe you’re still having issues… like, it should just work !

It's been working fine….but I don't play it much and actually not turned it on for over a couple of months. But I bought GTA5 PS5 last week and tried it, didn't work. Thought it was a network issue and thought nothing of it. Now having the same network issue with Elden Ring…

I've changed nothing, it's the same router for yearssssss. PS4, Xbox 360, XB1, Switch, my computer, a hundred other things works with it fine. The PS5 was working with it….something changed and I have no idea what.

What is really weird is that the PS5 is online, i can do everything else, I can update the PS5, I can update games, I can download games, I can buy games.

To do all that I need to be signed in to PSN. So it proves that i am signed in.

To do all that i need to be online, if i am not online i can't download.

But I can't join online servers when i start the game….I can if i use my phone as the hotspot!

I am not sure if it is the router or the internet connection with BT?

I also just tried using wifi, except connecting to my Apple Time Capsule as the wifi connection which then routes to the router via LAN.

Still can't get the game to run, as it can't connect to online servers.

Everything else works though!

It may or may not be the cause… but I can definitely say, the fritzbox has been amazing, as a router.

edit. Even got the range extender which was a one button setup.

What is the "in" socket for it?

My broadband comes into the house via copper cable i think, old style phone RJ11 and goes into a BT modem which has a network RJ45 out.

No, there is no parental control on it.
Ah, so it can’t be that then. Odd one, almost seems like that’s the issue with it working via your phone but not the router. Some sort of double nat issue maybe then. Think that was a problem with my lad’s Xbox some time ago, but I can’t recall how we sorted it!

I had the same home hub as you. Probably 8 years or so. 2 weeks ago it started playing up so I phoned BT and they sent me the latest hub FOC. Not saying that’s what it is but it is worth a shot. The new hubs connect direct no need for the white box anymore.

I have that, not it doesn’t match with any of the cables. Like the socket from the wall Is RJ11. The new hub isn’t RJ11.

Update -

Whilst I can’t connect my wired stuff up yet due to logistics of cables but I just realised I could with wifi so I just use the new BT hub and connected PS5 to it and GTA5 online now works!

It seems it’s old modem that’s bricked, or bricked specifically blocking PS5 online gaming and that and nothing else. It’s so bizarre.

Same as me then old bloody hub! Glad you got it sorted. Really odd that I let you do some things but not others.
