What's the deal here? Has Russia simply not bothered to maintain her weapons systems?

Massive, systematic, corruption combined with a deliberate policy to keep the military weak, low status, and off balance in order to prevent it ever becoming a threat to the regime.

just the semiconductor technology for weapons control - don't see how russia have kept up with that, unless it's all illicit use of Western fabs (N korea ballistic missile similarly)
The covid vaccine race, was another manifestation of technology they have.

I wonder if the newer tanks like the Challenger 3 have any sort of counter measures against Javellin/NLAW missiles. The tank as a fighting machine does seem a bit redundant because of these weapons now.
They are trialling Active Protection System (APS). They have selected Trophy MV for the CR3 to trial, which is a hard kill APS, uses explosive projectiles to disable incoming warheads. As it stands the Trophy system can deal with ATGM's, RPG's and slower moving projectiles like HEAT etc. however they are developing it to counter APFSDS in future updates. The current theatre entry standard Abrams MBT also has similar Trophy APS, and Germany are also fitting them to the Leo 2. How effective they will be in actual combat I dont know, but it is an impressive system.

It also depends how many times the counter measures can be used.

Numerous, it can engage multiple threats simultaneously, and has an auto reloading feature. I cant find a number on how many the auto reloading system holds, closest I could find was some article that stated in testing the Abrams equipped with the system it successfully countered 48 threats, now whether thats consecutively or throughout the entirety of testing I dont know.

There won't be a regime change through invasion of Russia. It will come from within. The sad passing of the Russian premier, suddenly at his country dacha. He will be sadly missed and posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin for services to his country.
Interesting theory. Could work. 50/50 on whether we get someone better or worst though.

Not yet. The MoD are definitely bolting on some ADS though, leaning heavily towards Israel's 'Trophy' variant.

And it's far from redundant. Done away with the rifle barrel which I think meant they have a more powerful cannon, and the tank itself is significantly faster than its predecessor. A whole host of other improvements too.

All this talk of regime change slip up by Biden.
Putin is a democratically elected leader of Russia, for which he could be voted out by the people of Russia (clown music playing).

He's really that paranoid the US may invade in his life time? Do we/they really want that mess of a country to deal with, the corruption alone would take generations to clear out, if ever.

.

For all the criticism of Obama and Crimea you have to remember he had zero support for any action/serious sanctions against Russia in Europe. Germany just wasn't interested in the slightest. Obama was attempting to get the US out of wars, not into new ones, he allowed the military to convince him to remain in Afghanistan, something Biden lobbied hard against as VP. The Arab Spring was something that was hard not to get involved in when the geo political consequences of how it turned out were so important and ISIS was involved in it everywhere. Obama deserves criticism for sure but it isn't black ands white.

As I recall was it Cameron(?) who put it to the UK parliament to hold a vote on whether to go into Syria largely at the if not request, then at least the expectation, of support from the US, the so called "red line" on chemical weapons being used having been crossed, on the expectation that it would be merely a formality, and to everyone's surprise not least of all the US it voted "no"... and that was the end of that the US/Obama didn't really feel it could go into Syria alone

It was a dumb thing to say it gifts Russia a propaganda weapon as well as making it much more difficult for any opposition to Putin to take action he'll be doubling down on security if he's got any sense left at all. You just don't give the enemy forward notice of your plans in advance

Watch as all the Trump supporters suddenly don't like someone telling it like it is and being upset about their leader saying the wrong thing diplomatically.

I don't know why Biden is getting such a hard time on this forum, he has done everything he can do including supply leathal aid to Ukrain and lots of it.

He is vocal in everyway, condemed putin, called him a war criminal, sanctioned them all to the collape of their econony and raised billions in aid for them in congress.

He has led Nato in this, Boris barely says a word, the Germans are crapping themselves and the rest of them are barely heard although they do also supply lethal aid.

What elde could Biden do? No Nato can't go in but it's not only Biden that knows this the rest of Nato do too. Nato goes in then the nukes start to fly, its as simple as that.

They can't supply fighter jets because they have no airport to base them, they would need to use Poland which drags them into a legitimate target, which starts world war three, and the Nukes start to fly.

Putin still being in power is Bidens fault according to some why? He's only just been in power, if anyone could get him out then where was Trump when Putin was leveleling Syria?

But I will stake everything I own on Putin being ousted on Bidens watch, dead or alive.

Putin's credibility is taking a bit of a knock here.

It does seem likely, especially given Biden's speech yesterday, that at some point Mr Putin might die suddenly.

Whether future Russian leadership might look like would be a mystery, as Putin has ruthlessly sidelined all challengers. We could be back to the chaos of the 90s, which might be bad.

This forum is home to the top 1% of right wing thinkers i.e. the ones that need more than arguing on Facebook but still are pretty incoherent.

It is why videos of Biden "touching girls" get posted etc.

A Signal AI spokesperson said Redline Capital was a “small shareholder”, having invested in October 2019. “Redline no longer has a board seat,” it said. “To be clear, as an organisation we stand with the people of Ukraine against this terrible war.”

Funny how all these companies who were happy to take the dirty money didn't care about Ukraine while Russia occupied Donbass, Donetsk & Crimea but all of a sudden are bothered

doesnt putin say 13 odd attempts have been made on him in the last couple of decades and they all failed, or maybe that was fake news
