If I was the Ukrainian president, I would ensure that russia retreats from the ports. If Putin decides to stop there then that is a bad sign for future invasions (a) it blocks trade making Ukraine needing to through russia for trade and (b) russia can quickly bring ship based reinforcements for a second invasion at a later date - pushing down from Belarus, from the east and then from the south on three fronts.

Strategically I would ensure that Russia gives up the ports and the southern cities as part of any neutrality agreement. However I don't trust Putin keeping to any agreement anyway..

The new smooth-bore barrel allows it to fire a greater range of ammunition types than the older rifled barrels by adding newer "smart" shells (distance fused HE rounds etc) whilst also allowing more NATO integration with basic ammunition types too. I don't however see anything mentioned about the engine being upgraded, just the cooling system and suspension so I'm not sure if "significantly faster" is accurate.

That's the one. Whilst not a bigger turret, doing away with the rifle barrel causes less friction on the projectile meaning it travels faster, thus 'more powerful'. Alongside the use of a wider range of ordinances.

Wiki states the Challenger 2 has a top speed of 37mph and #3 is 60mph, albeit slighter lower cruising range.

Thousands of civilians dead in Mariupol with mass graves set up. Where are the Putin apologists who will try to explain it away.

Dont watch the video titled Mariupol morgue on twitter it really is not a morgue in the sense you see here more like something from schindlers list very grim.

From what I gather Russia's current demands are:

* Russia more or less gets to keep any land it has already gained and is now occupying

* What's left of Ukraine will agree to never join NATO and remain neutral

* What's left of Ukraine will cut its military size by 80%
Ukraine would be better off just giving up now and let Russia take what it wants then sign up to that rubbish at least it would avoid bloodshed in the invertible future conflict.

Macron is a fool.

Some videos on Reddit of hospitals etc with the dead... horrific, piled up atop of each other in Mariupol.

Yet we have Macron coming out with this BS, let's call Putin for what he is, he isn't interested in negotiations unless he gets Ukraine fully.

But that would mean they've suffered for nothing, all the deaths would have been for nothing, and their economy has been destroyed for nothing. Giving in now is not an option for them I don't think - the recovery will take at least a decade if the fighting stopped right now. I see what your saying (life is valuable) - but unless they make this painful for Russia they will just come back and take the rest anyway.
