here comes the price hike... I wished it was an april fools joke but I've been reading online about how so many people will submit their readings today
is it worth it?

Depends if your estimated reading will be too high or too low on 1st April. If the estimate will be higher than your actual reading then don't submit a true reading, if the estimate is lower submit a reading late night on the 31st.
I'll be submitting a reading but I do it every month so my bills are all worked out on true figures rather than estimates anyway.

but just asking is there an advantage of over submitting the readings? I mean technically you'd get charged a lot less based on todays price vs the hike tomorrow?

Yes, there is an advantage to overreading. The price will increase significantly tomorrow. If you overread and pay for more at the lower rate you'll save money. It's also fraud and would be similar to lying about previous incidents to get cheaper car insurance or lying about your personal finances to get a cheaper loan, etc.

The reason that people are submitting readings today is because they don't want an estimated usage figure from the energy company which might mean they end up paying for more at the increased rate. Most people are doing it to get an accurate bill, not to overread and try to gain an advantage.

It’s worth doing if only because we should trust these utility only as far as you can throw them. At least you’ll have a clear line where the old rate was and the new rate starts.

Smart meters do not send real time updates, some may only be sending them once a month. This may be configurable so its worth checking with your supplier / smart meter.

With their being a SVT price change tonight, all the smart meters should be polling a read for the pricing change cut off and also to update the prices on the meters. Going to be a huge amount of data going through the DCC in the next 24 hrs

2753 waiting calls and about 700 in progress at the moment for my employer, been like this or worse since 9am. Usually 400-600 calls waiting at peak so we've seen a 5 fold increase and its been like it all day.

If you can't submit a reading the advice seems to be to take a photo of the meter and submit the readings later. Apparently millions are trying to do it today, poor sods.

I can't submit any readings. Coincidence or what?

Submitted mine last night as thought servers would just conveniently buckle today.

Don't panic, it's not a hard deadline. You can submit a meter reading anytime. Even if you wait a week before getting a proper meter reading the estimated usage back to the 1st April will still be quite accurate from that. Maybe a couple of £ either way but it's not something worth stressing over.

I gotta do my monthly one seeing as it's the end of the month.

Just had a look, octopus website non functional. Says to come back later as new rates not effective till Saturday 2nd
