BMW M3 as a daily vs i4 M50

Funnily enough I saw an i4 M50 this evening, sat alongside it in traffic.... in my M3 :p (Albeit F80).

Scratch the itch if money is no object. I think in a few years they will be potentially be in high demand among current F80/F82 owners looking to switch, helped by the production/delivery delays.

I don't think a 1st gen EV will be worthless when the 2nd gen EV's arrive. There will definitely still be a market for them among people who simply want to benefit from fuel savings, can't afford to buy new and want to be greener.

A 300 mile range is still perfectly adequate for a lot of people right now and 600+ mile ranges aren't going to change that. Much like buying a car you don't need or use half the features on or performance of.
 
yep - the lifespan of the i4 m50, and resale values maybe limited once they bring in the dedicated bmw neue-klass ev platform, at which point they may have a true m3 competitor;
the symons video is interesting - he confirmed my pre-conception that the more nimble(-165kg) edrive40 maybe more fun than m50.

I really don't like more than 2 doors normally in performance cars (RS6 is the exception) but the F80 M3 looks so much better than the M4. The wide rear arches look so aggressive. The M4 is so subtle in comparison.
 
Are you the kind of driver where you’ll get the benefit of the extra costs of owning and running an M3? If yes then you know your answer.

If not then I’d really think hard about it.

My sister and her now ex bought an M4 a few years back thinking it would tick all boxes for them, it didn’t, he now has a current model M340d which he prefers in every respect, ok it’s the current model 3 as opposed to the previous generation M4 but , for him, he much prefers it, he far from a press on type driver and the M4 was a waste of money for a driver like him.

I did watch both the videos from rsymmonds and joe achillies which said the edrive40 was the better drivers car.....and to be honest, after I test drove the teslas I did prefer the rwd variant (even though I didn't like the car overall).

The edrive40 is also at a decent price through work.....it's just a shame I can't have two cars else I'd get the edrive40 and then something completely different for having a bit of fun in.

Unless I just get the edrive40 now, and wait to see what BMW do in the next few years (maybe a proper electric M car?).
 
Unless you plan on making use of the track/race setup of the M3 then get the i4.
A carbon roof doesn't provide much benefit in commuter traffic.
 
You clearly want the M3. Get the M3.

There doesn't need to be a sensible justification if it's what you want. I've just bought an M4 Competition (F82) for similar reasons.

We are going to have plenty of time for electric cars in future.
 
Well they probably know better than anyone. And it was in response to Jpaul saying Audi are going to beat BMW to a EV M/RS type car

Not sure it’s like a M140. It’s more powerful than any M3/M4 at the moment and did BMW ever call the M140 a M car. Anyway details
 
Being pedantic, imo if it was a true M car it would have that number, should be Mi4 or something. But like the x3 or x5 that has it, not sure they're M cars. Does the m50 have vastly different parts to the rest of the i4 range?

Reading through that site, it definitely sounds more M lite that'll full fat (I cringe even using those terms:p).
 
reading site, in particular m50 doesn't have a mechanical lsd ... like M440i, rather, presumably, like i3/1series brake based 'vectoring'/ARB despite m50's evident torque,
maybe it could be retrofitted a la teslas.
