Good morning all!

Going to tackle out ensuite. Over the years it's developed a very minor patch of mold marks on the ceiling in one area.

I'm assuming it's best practice to not just paint over this?

It's very minor, don't think there's a major issue causing it other than just years of steamy showers.

Is there a recommended product to prepare it before painting?

Zinsser cover stain or BIN are excellent stain blockers / primers, something oil or shellac based rather than water based.

Obviously tackle route cause too so check for minor leaks above, put in a decent fan, etc.

Also if the mouldy surface is proud of the surrounding area / swollen plasterboard, you'll want to remove it and refinish.

Also when you come to paint the ceiling, I suggest Zinsser Permawhite. It has biocide in it so should stop mould growing on it. I have it in my kitchen and my bathroom. It's good stuff.

That's a good shout, I used that stuff on a bathroom ceiling in my last house and it looked just as good 6 years later.

Great help guys, will follow the suggestions above!

I don't think it's caused by anything other than small space, steamy showers and a crappy fan not pulling it's weight.

But 7 years here and only a minor bit of mold isn't too worrying, will clear and paint with some decent stuff
