850W enough for 12700k+6900XT?

Hello,
I'm considering a build based on an i7-12700k + a 6900XT (I can get one at MSRP), would a 850W Cooler Master V850 Gold V2 be enough to power them with some safety margin?

I do not plan to overclock but I do plan to keep the PSU for over 5 years (current one is nearing 10 years), with GPU and SSD being the only likely replacements.

It should be fine but its power spikes from the gpu which can be high and cause problems so most are getting a 1000w to cover this.

It's somtimes a head bash but I would overspec the Psu.

Thanks, if that's the case I might consider knocking a couple steps down in SKUs, hopefully it will have a saner TDP...

A 1000w psu will be slightly more efficient so the extra cost of the psu will balance out over its lifetime .

Treat yourself :D

Yeah but cooling all that power requires more energy, especially in summer so not sure it will really balance it out.
I think I'll go for a RX 6700XT (or equivalent) and leave 4k gaming to the rich...
 
You could get the 6700XT and wait for RTX 5000 series or so when 4k gaming is as common as 1440P is now.

4K gaming right now isn’t bad but it’s hardly affordable.

agree with the others on getting 1000 watts. Be safe, not sorry.

It doesn't necessarily work out that way, because they'll up the cooler to compensate, but the next gen AMD cards are rumoured to be much more powerful and efficient:

The 6900 XT spikes up to 500 watts, according to this:

Running a 6800xt alongside a 280w 3960x on a 860w seasonic platinum and it's been flawless. I'd say an 850 for that system is fine.
 
They have come up with a new psu standard to help manage the spikes but as its so new we are waiting for the first psu to meet it, Intel's ATX v3.0 PSU Standard Has More Power for GPUs | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com)

The 6700xt while above MRSP is not that far in raster performance from a 2080ti which was roughly twice the price, so it isn't a bad card to get in that respect.

They're much better value now at the £550 OCUK has them, £700-£800 was silly, they're not twice as fast as a RX 6600.

The 3070 might well be better now though.

I think many will select the cheaper 3070, and to be honest why not if its both cheaper and often performs better. AMD really need to keep the 6700xt below the 3070 in price if they want to have market share
