Hi,

i am currently building my new rig and have read online that using the below power cable from my PSU could cause some issues and that i should run 2x of these and leave the daisy chain connector unplugged.

it looks really messy and im wondering 2 things:

1. do i really need to run 2 separate pci power cables
2. if i do, is it possible to run them essentially "upsidedown" putting the connector with the daisy chain at the PSU side.

cant see anything in the PSU manual, RM850 for reference.

You should always run individual cables to your GPU.

You'll always get some people saying they run a single daisy chained cable with no problems, that may well be true with their particular GPU.

It's something I would never do.

Also, the 3070 Ti is a power hungry card, use the two cables would be my recommendation.

If your asking in #2 if you're OK to use the PCI connector instead of the PSU connector into your PSU, dear lord, no!

Don't even think it would fit.

I just need to buy some new cables for the PSU as the daisy chain part hanging around the GPU is not very pleasing to the eye.

just get some cable ties and fasten the second header around the back so you can see it, thats what i did, or spend £150 on cablemod cables

#2 Nice thinking around a problem to add two outputs to one input at the GPU end but it won't work

The single PCI-E cable may not handle the extra power and catch fire.

The PCI-E GPU pins are standardised but the pin outs from a modular PSU differ between PSUs. One brand may use two manufacturers each with different standards. Results in fire if you can even plug them in :)

The corsair cables are not the best but i will try hiding the second header at the back as you said. hopefully looks a bit cleaner, appreciate the advice.

Definitely get some cable extensions as that looks terrible. I would suggest some black/silver or black/white ones to match the colouring of your AIO braided hose. I also have a Corsair psu and their cables are terrible so I went a step further and made my own cables.

Would you keep them coming out of the top grommet or try and route from below the card?

I agree it does look odd.

Edit: can someone recommend decent cable extensions?

my case has a cutout just below the gpu power connectors so i have mine coming up through that

though proximity to the GPU fans does concern me slightly with the above routing, not sure if the fans spin vigorously enough to pull those cables upwards.

Always wire up Ampere GPUs properly :s some of the momentary power demands can be insane. Annoyingly it is hard to cable them in tidily especially the FE cards with the 12pin connector.

I think it looks a lot cleaner coming out below the GPU, as you've now done. I wouldn't worry about the proximity to the fan as it's not going to create enough static pressure to pull it up in to it!

As pastymuncher mentioned, black and grey would probably fit your build really well - this set will sort you out for the graphics card as well as the motherboard and CPU power cables.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £31.69 (includes delivery: £8.70)

There are loads of other sets available here in other colours: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cases-and-modding/modding/sleeved-cables/value-extension-bundles
I've used BitFenix and (I think) Phanteks ones before and they are very good quality!

Or if you prefer you can buy individual cables here: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cases-and-modding/modding/sleeved-cables/sleeved-cable-extensions
