Hi folk,

Another thread, sorry - I've just got some quotes on my 17 plate, 25k mile SEAT Ibiza. It is a 4 door, 110bhp version. In good nick overall, with some touch ups required on body work. Ditch finders on the front. Serviced from SEAT for 3 years and then local indy for 2.

WBAC have offered £7.6k, Parkers estimate a top-end of £8k - but on AT right now, a similar car but 3 doors, and lower HP, is listed for £10.8k!

Is there a sensible way to price cars anymore or do I just pull a number from a hat?

Have a look at motorway and cazoo, I found wbac tend to low-ball the offer.

Also note the price on AT is an ask, doesn't mean someone will pay that price for it.

Motorway were a waste of time for me, gave a great price at the start, but once id submitted pics, the price went from 3200 to 875. The marks were essentially 1 2" scratch on a door, 3 scuffed wheels and a bumper scuff. Bear in kind it was a 16 year old merc.

AT prices are obviously going to be higher, nobody would sell there if they would only get the same money as offered by WBAC/Cazoo/Motorway etc.
This looks more like yours and is under £10k: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202112070297638
Any price from a dealer you need to knock off at least £1.5k to get closer to the realistic valuation as they need that to cover their overheads, warranty, minor touchups, risk, profit etc.

Use those 3 sites to get some idea, only takes a few mins per site. Bear in mind you may get marked down a bit based on condition so perhaps subtract 10%.

TBH anything north of £7.5k doesn't sound too bad for a car like that.

Spot on! I think I filtered on FR not FR Technology (which it is). Pretty much identical. 8250 sounds fair then - I'll give motorway a go I think.

Thanks!

Listed today with Motorway, even with some minor scuffs they reckon £9200 or something crazy. Word of caution before you sort the car out, take your pics and then come in to upload them with a cuppa - they insist you use their app to take the pics  So had to go and empty the car and start over!

I then phoned and spoke to 3 different people in total - 1 to check-in, 1 to be told to re-take the boot photo, and 1 to be told to re-take a tyre photo

Anyway, it now apparently needs to go to a "QA" team - maybe they'll catch that the estimate is redic.

Is this last of the 6J model? If so, £7.5k is reasonable. If it's first of the new 6F gen? If so, £8k plus
Maybe that is the glitch on Motorway. It is the 6J but I think the price is coming up for an 6F.

I've not used it personally, but what about giving Carwow a go? Dealers essentially bid on your vehicle.

We have secured the sale of your vehicle at the agreed price of

£9,228

lol

Let me know how it goes, considering getting shot of my car as it's 'valued' at more than I paid for it.
Sold

Chap came and picked it up today. Did a quick walk around then phoned the buyer to authorise payment. They took the car away before I got paid but this was one of the big boy dealerships who basically set the rules...

All sorted tho, £9.2k. Only paid £8.9k.

Bloke basically came from an "uber of car collection" type firms: arrived on train, put trade plates on, drives it up to Solihull. He'll now stay over in Solihull for his next job in Hull. Decent job for an old retired boy.

Insurance cancellation is a **** take - once all the dodgy multi-car discounts and admin fees had been applied, only about 85 quid of 500+ coming back; and parking permit even worse - only a fiver coming back! The cheek of the women ('do you still want to bother?').

What you’re offered and what a car retails at are two separate things.

Cap average tends to be about 2 grand less than retail in most cases. Unless it’s a Range river, Audi etc as most franchises dealers tend to have 4K plus across cars.

If you want the most money for your car then sell privately but you’ve got the inconvenience of dealing with time wasters, people coming to your home to test drive etc.

It’s far more convenient to drive to a dealer with your part exchange and drive away with the car you’ve purchased.

Definitely, considering 1 alloy refurb, bumper respray and collection costs.

aye didn't realise how much they relied on the additional bits n bobs that they would tout with a car.

Even more tempted to look to selling mine now haha, not a clue what Id replace it with tho.
Think its still far too early to go full electric

I was awfully tempted, on the basis that it wouldn't have cost much more than my new car to get into a Model 3, and then I'd have had significantly lower running costs.

But ultimately opted not to go there as I wasn't sure what kind of property I may live in next, as I don't own my place.
