New law to make EV charging network 99% reliable

OK, so 99% is a reasonable target to set, but..

What is the reliability now?

We need to track reliability over time to see:
- if reliability gets better or worse
- if they fail to hit the target, then a consequence needs to be triggered

There will be so many clauses the figure will likely be meaningless anyway. Between planned maintenance windows, external factors, third-party damage, etc.

It's a good plan though, something had to be done. The number of out of service chargers is unacceptable going forward and as it stands the operators are in no rush whatsoever to get them repaired.

Probably better to have enforced internal checks on companies carrying out maintenance and routine checks on charging points to ensure that they work.

While you may say they could fluff figure's and lie it's better the private ev company takes the brunt of the bad press rather than say the government funding another regulatory body that can't enforce anything or look into it.

I'm not convinced on arguments for faster charging. I think batteries won't survive well with +200KW fast charging constantly. Probably better to advance battery capacity and change the ICE mindset.

We could do with a law to make the politicians 99% reliable for a start.

But I'll settle for the charger reliability for a realistic choice.
