Thinking of getting a new bathroom in my flat - it's about 220 cm * 190cm so a small one, but various problems have started coming up and it all looks a bit dated. It's a "new" build (around 15 years old now), and bathroom hasn't changed since.

I don't plan to stay in the flat too long (maybe another year...depending on what goes on with cladding issues), so don't want to spend over the top.

Had a quick chat with someone at B&Q and the very rough quote was about 1,700 for everything components wise, and another 1,300 maybe for install.

Is that reasonable? And is the quality ok? Or if I'm better off somewhere else, any recommendations?

If I were moving in a year and my bathroom was all perfectly functional - I'd be more looking to tidy and clean than to replace any of the major components with cheap B&Q stuff. Maybe a new floor, new paint. Re-apply the sealant, tidy up the grout - and give everything a through ajax.

+1 no point spending £3k+ especially as it sounds like a cheap replacement. Save your money for estate agents fees

As above... £1700 in units sounds low, and £1300 fitting sounds like they'll literally unbolt and re-bolt, not necessarily make good of the job.

Put the effort in yourself to clean it (steam mop) and re-do the sealant and it'll be 5 years newer/presentable. Unless it is a pristine refurb people will want to have on their bucket list a new suite anyway.

Thanks all - yeah...part of it was to make it all a bit nicer, and thinking that it might also help with the sale. Newer/more modern bathroom, so might allow me to ask for more for the place, or might just help sell it quicker at the time since it looks a lot more dated than the rest of the flat (combined with of course just having a nicer place in the meantime). It's a 1 bed flat, so not sure new buyers will want to replace everything/new suite etc., though of course depends on who you eventually get!

In my head initially, it would all cost 15k+, so def. not worth it. I spoke to a friend and she mentioned that it should really all be around 5k, which was a lot more doable. B&Q was the first time I got any semblance of a quite, but I have no idea if they're any good etc. (hence this thread :)).

If their quote is too cheap to be any good, is there anyone else out there I should be considering then if I did go ahead with it rather than just wait? Is Bath Store for instance any better? I don't want super budget etc. and not super high end. Medium is good :) But if cost of medium is so high that it really doesn't make sense to do anything (essentially if I'll end up losing money on the flat as a result and the cost won't result in a corresponding increase in sale price), then will scrap the idea as suggested here.
Brand new to all of this, so any and all advice is very welcome :D Re-doing just the floors/tiles is a nice idea I hadn't considered - would make everything look a lot newer!

I would say a few factors you need to consider :
- When you say dated, ok but what sort of dated, do you mean the decor is dated, or the sanitary ware itself (odd colour etc). Whilst lots are moving to in built etc loos, they could be a fad, certainly they are much more of a ball ache if something goes wrong.
- If its decor you can probably get it tarted up a lot for not too much money. Some paint etc. even new taps etc
- The price of the bathroom reno vs your flat in general.
- How you account for taste. Everyone is different, spending a load of money that may not be someones taste, who may think, OMG that bathroom that needs redoing is impossible to predict.

I am guessing but I am assuming minor problems are just age related, taps wearing out, flush seals etc, which you could do them all in one go. A nice new shiny set of taps, replaced flush mechs/seals. A good tart up of all silicon, good cleaning of grout etc can make everything sparkly. repaint all, maybe new ceiling lights etc.
Your probably still talking upto maybe a grand but it will look and feel nicer.

I always consider unless things like bathroom, kitchen etc are unlivable they are only adding to resaleability rather than value
