Hello folks. Need some advice please. Took pictures down to do some decorating and was about to put them back up when I decided that even although they were a good distance from light switch and sockets, I would check with a detector. Tried with two of them and they both indicated an electric cable exactly where I wanted to put the pictures back up. Obviously I won't be putting them back up there but should I be worried that the cable behind the wall may have already been damaged when I first put the pictures up about 3 years ago (took them down about 3 weeks ago to decorate). Many thanks for any help and advice.

given there "may" be damaged cables behind the wall i'd be wanting to at least get them checked, small hole drilled and a borescope through it would be an easy check and you can always put the pictures back up afterwards to hide the hole.

having seen the aftermath of a house fire its not worth risking it.

Might be legacy wiring, doorbell old ring main etc.
What type of test did you use? Is it just like a metal detector or is there current running?

Maybe try flipping off your breaker switches and re testing as another means of elimination /confirmation before doing an intrusive inspection.
