Hi all,

Sorry, I am not up to date with all the latest PCI 4.0 stuff ....But I am trying to build a new Rig with X570 Board and 5700G.

What would be a good 1Tb M.2 (Gen4) SSD to buy please?

Thanks

No point getting an X570 board or gen4 ssd with a 5700G because that CPU only does pcie 3.0.

Edit: Also note the 5600G gets pretty close to 5700G performance in most tasks for a fair bit less money. Could still make sense if you're doing something where you need the extra cores. Most cheapish B550 boards should be fine.

Edit 2: just noticed this on offer, it is pcie4 so won't get the full benefit, but it's on offer atm and only a bit more than pcie3 nvme drives - could reuse it in a future upgrade:

This is true.

If you really want a Gen 4 SSD, Samsung 980 Pro gets my vote.

Yes, there are cheaper ones but the 980 PRO is the ****.

You also don't need a gen 4 SSD to enjoy your games/PC use. I'd only use it for very niche use cases. If you're daily driving it, wait until Gen 4 gets cheaper.

I'd get a 970 Evo Plus if I was you though - it's really fast and not nearly as expensive.

Thanks guys, Sorry ...I didn't know that the 5700G does not support PCI-E 4.0!

I thought it was a 3000 series CPU :(

So in this case ...will having a Gen4 M.2 (SSD) give me any performance benefits over a Gen3 SSD?

Thanks

No. You wont get any benefits and even if gen 4 is faster, you wont notice the difference.

LTT did a human use test between a 2.5 inch SSD, gen 3 NVME and gen 4 NVME SSD and most got it wrong.

5700G makes little sense over the 5600G which is much better value. Also best of getting Gen3 SSD as you will not notice the difference and X570 is overkill unless you plan to update the cpu in the future and also add in a GPU

I assume you are going to be using the IGP on the AMD APU so with that in mind I would get.

The 5700X is a better CPU than the 5700G and it supports PCI-E 4.0 (not that it really matters for SSDs right now).

What do you use the PC for? For most users a modern cheap DRAM less drive like the WD SN570 (PCI-E 3.0) or 750 SE (4.0) is practically indistinguishable from a high-end drive. I would not want to use one as a boot drive.
