Upgrading from 2070s. Should I go 6700XT ?

I game at 1440p 144hz, upgrading from a 2070super. Should I go for a 6700xt ? Would already be at the top end of my budget. How do AMD cards work with gsync compatible monitors, would it work as freesync instead ? Wondering how much of a performance gain I could expect

I did see that, not sure how reliable it is though. Where would the upgrades start, 3070, 3070ti ?

3070 does seem like it'd be about 30% faster. Ti would be a bit more again. Whether that's worth it is up to you... I'd only bother if I was wallowing at 40 fps in something I played a lot :)

I'm seeing other benchmarks online where it says the 6700xt is about 25-30% faster than the 2070 super so I'm not sure

Depends on the monitor. If it's G-Sync ultimate or one of the older monitors with a G-Sync module, high chance it won't have variable refresh rate when used with a non-Nvidia GPU.

I would personally be tempted to hold off and wait for next gen if I were you. But if now, I would say 3070/6800 minimum.

We also have this handy thread now: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/gpu-hierarchy.18951645/

3070 is also not worth it, its a couple % better than the 6700XT with 4GB less VRam. ^^^^

No, as a fellow 2070S owner i wouldn't settle for anything less than an RX 6800, its why i haven't upgraded, prices are just too high for a meaningful upgrade.

The one thing i do like about the 6700XT is the 12GB VRam, in the future i think that has a lot more legs than the 8GB on the 3070, but neither of them are fast enough.

1080P

RTX 2070S: 82%
RX 6700XT: 100% (+22%)

I have mine running +125/700 which in performance terms puts it about 2% short of a 2080S, a stock 6700XT is only about 10% faster than that.

Don't waste your money, i'm waiting for the next generation.

1080P and 1440P

RX 6700XT: 100%
RTX 3070: 104%

Yes the RT performance is much better on the RTX 3070 but its still not great, this is not the generation of 'good' Ray Tracing performance at a reasonable cost, IMO its pitiful 8GB VRam is also going to hurt it in the near future, the 2070S is also 8GB and there are games today where it runs out of VRam before it runs out of 60 FPS + 1440P muscle.

This generation is a waste of money, its very much a generation of Nvidia and AMD knowing they could sell any old crap.

I would wait.

I went from a 2070Super to a 6900XT. And I am sorry I didn't wait until the next generation.

The 2070 Super is a great GPU. If you aren't having any problems with it, just hold out for a few months. You should get much more performance for the same money that you are spending now on an upgrade.

would 100% wait and see what next gen brings its not like you dont have anything the 2070 super still can do a job

About 20% gain but as others have said said keep the 2070s for the moment as its a great GPU.

Sadly sold mine at the height of the mining craze and got good money for it as I was not gaming much and kind of justified it as I incorrectly predicted the market would be ok but hey managed to get a 1070 to tide me over.
