Could you recommend a cheap dashcam?

Today I narrowly missed a head on collision on a B road.
Less than 40 mph, I was tootling along. A perfectly safe, casual speed to do on this part of the road. A humped bridge is ahead of me. It happens also to contain a bend. A blind bend/summit.
I'm at the entry on the bridge when another vehicle comes pelting from the opposite direction. He/she is coming towards me on my side of the road. I slam on the brakes for an emergency stop. The driver in the oncoming vehicle probably looks up from his phone and swerves to his left just in time. Then drives on past. Never to be seen, or held to account for his dangerous driving. Collision narrowly avoided. Not quite a paint scraper but too damn close.

I think perhaps if I had a dashcam I might get vehicle license numbers visible on replay? Any recommendations, please?

There is a Dascam thread on the motors forum, but saying that most that Halfrauds sell are decent cameras at good prices. You do get what you pay for so don't go dirt cheap.

Halfrauds, Lol. I like that. I dislike that shop. Too expensive but 8pm opening got me in there for the first time in 10 years. . Was in there last week. Five minutes before closing and the sales chap kept looking at his watch in a very exaggerated manner and then, not satisfied we were taking the hint, told us (Me and my missus) "we shut in two minutes".
I can think of several reasons why he may be in a rush to get out of there but none of them encourage me to return to Halfords.

I'll have a look at the motor forum. I wasn't sure whether to post this original post here or in motors.
Thanks Finglonga.

Do get a front and rear camera. The rear is useful for showing that the driver who rearends you wasn't paying attention.. Indeed, the next dashcam I get will likely be a triple to counter any accusations of "He was looking at his mobile." and "He wasn't wearing a seatbelt." etc

Good questions, ShiWarrior,
Just front for the moment. No need for recording when I'm not there.

Ours have saved the price of them from the very fact we were not there. The wifes caught a Transit minibus hitting her and driving off and mine caught the council using a strimmer and smashing one of my windows. For me at least Parking mode is a must on any camera.
