Is my staff member "flirting" or just being friendly.....

I am all for slowing UK population growth to a negative figure of considerable magnitude, so I suppose i should be grateful to those so under the workplace HR thumbs ;)

But in all seriousness, there are some tragically browbeaten and overtly politically correct people posting here. It seems you are happy to accept Brian can come in tomorrow in a frock, sporting a beard, and you must call him Beth, or HR will have you through the door, but touching up legit girl Sally from the typing pool, after work, with her encouragement, is a Cardinal HR sin. Bizarre...

From the typing pool? Hang on lads, I reckon I've sussed it. Roar and Chris are getting their ideals from Mad Men. Bloody hell mate, catch up.

And all this brow beaten, never touched a woman nonsense is just that. You can try casting aspersions all you like but it isn't going to change the fact that shagging someone who you manage is a bad idea for your career. I've seen plenty of good workplace relationships bloom, but a direct report is never one of them. "Hey honey, that report you submitted late is full of errors and you need to improve or you're going on capability" just ain't a conversation that is going to work well. My wife and I are fully in agreement that neither of us could take orders from eachother in a work environment.

I have never suggested the OP has never touched a woman, I merely surmise that having to ask for advice here on a computer forum that his confidence is fragile and his gigolo rating is less than 1 on a scale of 0 to 100 ;) "Living dangerously" is obviously a life choice that sends shudders through many here, sadly.

Yeah too right!!!

I only take orders from her at home.

Once again, this is NOT about banging Sally from the typing pool. This is about banging Sally who you manage. Or perhaps banging Sally who is your manager.

Do you really and truly not see the difference?

Of course I can see how you are differentiating who HR decree you may have a relationship with. What I am saying is acceptance of HR citing who you can and cannot have a relationship with is a sign of weakness and excessive capitulation to a perceived career. How much power do you think HR legislation should be given? What are your boundaries here? Do you do whatever anyone tells you just in case it may later have an impact on your career prospects to go against that instruction? I am hoping this government will castrate HR in UK companies from their currently excessive controls.

It is jack all to do with HR. It is just common sense that if it hits the fan, banging your subby is not an ideal position when they claim foul.

I feel that whenever Roar replies to any threads relating to the workplace he simply must provide the link to the thread where he was absolutely schooled by Housey on aptitiude and career progression, and even if he doesn't the OP should discard anything he says about women or the workplace (or both) because being a Team Leader (of 2 from memory?) in some dodgy call centre in Leeds isn't what would be generally understood to fall under the definition of having 'made it', and the workplace standards are perhaps not comparable to a professional environment.

Chris is what Roar will become (even though Chris is slightly ruining it by leaning a bit too heavily into parody) which is both hilarious and depressing :D

I didn't HAVE to ask for advice.

The thread was meant to be a light hearted conversation. I'm not sat on the edge of the seat waiting for the next post to decide my next move.
