edit: updated thread title with new issue.

So im trying to put my new 3080 into my new Z690a motherboard but it won't fit in the top PCI slot for some reason. It fits fine into the PCI slot beneath it but then there is barely any clearance between the case and the bottom of the GPU

Here is a picture, the top PCI slot is silver and it won't fit into that for some reason I cant work out. If I put it in the second PCI slot beneath then as mentioned the GPU is very closed to the base of the case (on top of enclosure where PSU sits)

Looks fine, with 3 fans for intake at the front and 2 top exhausts.

Adding another fan at the back as an exhaust will likely still be worth it (as presumably your case isn't pushed right against the wall due to cables being plugged in), as it should help pull air across the GPU (and will help balance air in vs air out)

Thanks dude.

Maybe that rear bracket/case rear are tight fit.
That happens.

Anyway that card likely weighting ton and half is sagging quite notably and rigging some support for it wouldn't be bad thing.

There's no reason as to why it shouldn't fit in the top slot. Being at the bottom there is blocking a lot of airflow and is very far from ideal.

It makes no sense not to be able to fit into the top PCIe slot. They are designed to fit and never heard of this issue.

Are you pushing the black release clip down at the end ?
Does it have one of the fancy new easy release clips ?
M.2 cover screwed in far enough to make sure it doesn't interfere?

You can lay the case on its side and put card in from above if that will help make it easier.

Are those capacitors blocking it being fully inserted? the second slot doesn't have them in that position and the GPU shroud seems to be cutting it fine on the dimensions... really shouldn't be a problem though.

My EVGA 3080Ti feels like it's just a hair too big for the slot. (Too long) It does "fit", but it takes a lot of patience and a little more force than I think it should.

It would be a pain, but if you had the board out of the rig and otherwise bare, you could get eyes on the slot from more (and better) angles as you try to negotiate the card into the slot. (Or determine that it actually does not fit)

You would still have to remove it, reinstall the board and still get it to fit whilst the board is installed in the case, but if it fits outside of the case, it may just be a matter of leaving the motherboard's mounting screws a little loose so it slides away from the back of the case a bit when you try to install the graphics card.

Well the natural thing to do is try it outside the case. If it slots in outside the case, case problem, if not then at what end isn't it slotting in fully, please describe in more detail how it doesn't fit (it could potentially be a manufacturing error with the board - although i doubt that's the case, it's possible).

Lots of good suggestions already, so I'll just point out that the slots are PCI Express / PCIE, not PCI. I was all set to point out that this was surely going to be your problem too. :)
