Pairing a 6700xt to an i7-3770k

Hello,
I'm considering several upgrade options and out of several ones, one could be pairing a Radeon 6700xt to my almost 10 years old i7-3770k.
I already got 16GB RAM so it's pretty reasonable and I plan to play at 1080p/1440p (VSR) 60-75 fps with freesync.

How much of a bottleneck should I expect?

Thanks for any feedback!

While your average and max fps will go up by a lot your minimums will be the same in some games.
Even RX 590 will be bottlenecked in some cases with that cpu at 1080p.
My suggestion is if you really want to upgrade just the GPU then overclock the hell out of that cpu and if it dies (very unlikely) upgrade to something more recent.
3770k is not worth much these days as cpus progressed massively since it came out.

Unless forcing a scenario where the GPU is pushed to the limit, your CPU, at stock, will hold back the 6700XT big time.
I would say go nuts overclocking, but if my ageing old brain allows me to remember, overclocking 2000, 3000 and 4000 Intel was a breeze. Just allowing a bit more voltage, you may be able to gain quite some performance, yet keep the CPU cool.

Depends on the games you play, though I'm not surprised the 590 would start to struggle at 1440p. What I'd do is just buy it and see, you can upgrade the CPU later if needed.

That's handy for me too. My CPU is an i7-4790K so I'm in a similar position. I game at 1440. Looks like it would be worth one more round of upgrading my dGPU. I currently have a 1070Ti. I'll probably wait until the 4000 and 7000 series come out and see what the prices are then. Or maybe Intel will surprise everyone+dog and Arc will be available and worth buying.

What you have to remember is the cpu affect on the fps 1% lows so a more modern cpu would have less drops in fps . The low fps in demanding scenes can lead to stuttering/sluggish performance

Nvidia cards tends to be more reliant on CPU than AMD ones so you might want to be careful if you're considering that road.
My wife has your exact same CPU and she's pretty happy with her RX 6600.

I would be more concerned about the minimum frame rate with such an old setup rather then any potential bottleneck. Also a modern GPU running on PCI-E 3.0? Shouldn't be too bad but probably leaving some performance on the table.

No and given that my PC is not exactly new I'd rather not take the risk.

Thanks, it's honestly better than I thought, I was afraid it would be over 20% of a bottleneck...
Surely you've got less to lose from overclocking an old PC, because even if it breaks it wasn't worth much anymore anyway.

You can run 4.3 on them really easily up from 3.9 default. Around 1.18-1.23v. Get hot at 4.5, some won't do it and lots more volts needed - wouldn't bother for the gain.
