Sim Racing PC - Triple 27"

I've just bought a new sim rig and need a PC to power it all. I've not had a PC for years as I moved over to Mac a good few years ago for work.

Initially I'm going to be running a 49" G9 but I intend to swap this out to 3 x 27" 1440p monitors so ideally I want a CPU/GPU that won't struggle when I do change the monitor.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

AMD Ryzen 5900x
32GB RAM
M.2 SSD
3080Ti/3090
X570 Motherboard

I haven't kept up to date with AMD vs Intel so not sure if I'm better going Intel (12700/12900)?

The main thing I'm out of touch with is motherboards. I don't know which chipset to go for and what features I should be aiming for? I've always overclocked PCs in the past and assume I probably will again this time round but not as extreme.

Hi.

Running sutch high graphics is usually gpu bound so something like the 12700k would be ideal . Along with a z690 motherboard would allow you the overclocking you require. If not a 12700 and b660 would save you a few bucks.

There is the oprion of DDR5 but for Gaming it offers little performance boost over Ddr4.

A fast pcie4 m2 drive like western digital sn850, a quality 1000w psu and arctic freezer 2 aio water cooler.

There are gpu and cpu releases later this year if you can hold off.
 
Is it likely the CPU/GPU releases are a big step up or is it all unknown at the moment?

I think DDR4 should suit me as the DDR5 seems like a big price jump and as you say not that much benefit.

I can't really hold off but I'm happy to keep the hardware for 1-2 years as all I will use the PC for is iRacing, ACC, Warzone (or similar) so nothing hugely taxing except for the triple screen requirement when racing.

Gpu release rtx 4000 and amd 7000 are suppose to be massive jump in performance but at what price range . Not so sure on the cpu side of things but I would be researching both before you decide.

I've just done a all black build I'll post it so you check it over.

If you are Sim Racing as the main thing then the 5800X3D is literally the best CPU on the planet right now, and will cover you well for future GPU's. Best bit is you can throw it in a £99 B550 board with some cheap £60 DDR4 RAM and it'll spank the 12700K for Sim Racing etc. Just get a decent cooler and you'll be good to go. :)

Are there any real world benefits between the cheap B550 boards and the more expensive ones for gaming?

Depends on how much I/O you might need. more M.2 slots on the X570's and more USB 3.2's etc. better onboard audio, and maybe 2.5GbE. You could get the wonderful MSI MAG B550M Mortar Wi-Fi for about £110 recently, that was an utter bargain and such a good board.

Those are single screen results running triple 1440p monitors is more than 4k unless I'm missing something.

Yes, future GPU upgrades - who wants a bottle neck if they get a 4080+, to save no money right now? Also some people revert from multi screen to single screen or VR, my friend build his own Sim racing rig for use with monitors, and now plays in VR with it instead. There is no downside to buying the 5800X3D (other than maybe waiting a couple of weeks), and there will likely be very strong second user market for them, should you come to sell it on.
 
I’ve just managed to pick up a 12900k, Asus ROG Strix & MSI SUPRIM 3090 on the MM for £1500!

I think I’ll be going for the Corsair 5000D (or X) as per your build and the PSU you suggested so thank you for those :)

Nice,
just remember if you go arctic 360mm rad, you'll have trouble fitting in the roof of the case. I'd go with a standard thickness 360mm rad if roof mounting.

Nice.

And check it has a skt 1700 bracket whichever cooler you get.
