Hello all,

I have a RTX 3070 ti FE, currently game on a 1440p G-sync 144hz panel.

I'm looking to maybe move to a 28-32" 4k 144hz panel, however I'm a little concerned about my 3070 ti as that Res, I understand I can lower settings etc to maintain a higher FPS, I mainly play Apex legends which isn't graphics heavy anyway, however other games such as BF and COD do worry me, will G-sync and DLSS save me here? Or am I overthinking it and my 3070ti would be fine?

How would a 4k panel look if Res dropped to 1440?

Cheers

g-sync and dlss will do you some favours, yes.

But if you're concerned I'd check youtube for benchmarks of the games you're interested in at 4k using a 3070ti - they'll exist.

It seems I would still get good FPS before touching/changing settings.

Anybody running 4k with a 3070ti? Any issues or input?

I can run most games at 4k 60 on a 3060ti, so I imagine your 3070ti should be fine to run at higher frames, though you might have to sacrifice in game settings (though I generally play on high/ultra settings anyway)

May I ask what games you play for that FPS?

My main concern is loosing the high FPS for apex legends, that's the game I play the most and often

Destiny 2 at (highest graphics settings) 4k 60
Halo Infinite (high) 4k 60
Forza Horizon 5 (medium-high) 4k 60
Minecraft Java (High with shaders) 4k 60
COD Warzone (Highest) 4k 60
Doom Eternal (Medium) 4k 60
Of all the games I've tried, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the only one that didn't run 4k 60 smoothly which was dissapointing but every other game I've tried will do it (though I've never tried Apex, I imagine its' similar in terms of graphics to Halo)

Cheers, gives me a good indication.
Have you ever lowered the Res to 1440p on the 4k panel? If so does it still look ok?

I'm pushing 180+ in apex at highest settings so 4k in Apex should be a breeze

Yeah, I've used this panel (Samsung The Space 32") at 4k, 1440, and 1080, looks fine at 1440, 1080 is a bit rough but tolerable. I imagine a dedicated 1440p display will probably do a better job of showing 1440 though
If you're getting those frames I can't see why you couldn't push to 4k res
You could always buy the 4k monitor, try it out and return it if it doesn't work for you
What monitor are you buying (because one with Gsync could definitely help make the most of your GPU and improve image quality)

I'm looking at the Acer Predator XB323QKNV for £699.99

Also seen the Samsung G7 4k for £629.99

Solid choices, Samsung monitors are very reliable. LG Ultragear might be worth taking a look at too
If you're really looking to splash out, the Samsung g9 Oddyssey is the best of the lot
Good luck with the new setup, enjoy

Before making a decision you can try out 4k on your 1440p monitor.
In Nvidia control panel, find the DLDSR setting and enable it for 2.25.
This will now give you the option to run 'most' games (in game resolution) at 4k on your current monitor to give you an idea of the performance hit.. on top of that you can still use DLSS.

If you find a game that doesn't work with this method, like God of War, then use DLDSR to set the desktop resolution to 4k then run the game.

Is it worth playing at 4k 60 vs 2k 150-180FPS? I would downgrade a resolution and play at high refresh.

Personally would stay at 2k at that screen size to experience higher frames and not having to lower settings

I'd only consider 4k 32 inch when we have cards that can give similar results what we get now at 2k

I play at 1440p on a 55 inch OLED as I prefer the Higher fps over 4k/60, Using a 5800X and RTX2080, IQ looks fine to me at 1440p from about 4.5 feet away.
