VW emissions scandal

Hi,

My missus bought a skoda Octavia in 2013 brand new. She still has the car and it was recalled over the emission scandal and was recalled for the update.

Now she keeps getting emails and feeds on her Facebook asking her to sign up to group compensation firms for no win no fee, she's had a few different one's on there. Is this legit? Or some scam? If it's legit does anyone know who would be the best company to use?

The cars were mis sold. People have lost thousands of pounds in slumped values, repairs they shouldn't have needed, revenues when their cars were off the road. Thing is, it's not just VW who are doing this, it's all manufacturers, so if anything does come of it, the floodgates will open.

Just shyster lawyers jumping on the new bandwagon now that PPI is almost played out.

Pretty much. Low chance of winning, the lawyers keep 30-40% of the award if you do from the couple of large ambulance chasing firms who are touting for business.

So is it worth her joining one of these companies, if so what one? as they sign you in once you join them by the looks of it. I know in the USA that they sued VW for ppl that had the same problem and won.

They will award you 5 trees to make up for the extra carbon footprint, the lawyers keep 2 of the trees however.

Depends, what do you feel you have lost that you would say face to face with a judge?

So no one here will be looking to join one of these firms for compensation?

All I really want to know was if it was a scam? If it's legit who best to go with.

I thought there was a legitimate class action case going though in the UK and there was only a few weeks left to sign up?

Yes, here it is:

I think these are the main people bringing the action:

Honestly I thought the PPI miss-selling issue was way overblown in the media and people had a certain level of personal responsibility. But what VW did is wasn't 'miss-selling', it was just simply fraud. It's already been proven to be a criminal fraud in many jurisdictions with a few high level execs being put in prison (Germany and USA). Owners have a legitimate claim IMO.

I wouldn't have any issues signing up and I would encourage others to join it. I can honestly say I would never buy an effected car second hand with all the reported issues following the 'fix', I'm not surprised the values have tanked.

All diesel cars were retested, other manufacturers did it with a handful of cars but nothing like on the scale of VW.

They were even warned by the people who made the software that what they were doing was illegal.

When you get your compensation, you should give it to me, I had to breathe in all your extra pollution.

Go take your high horse somewhere else, it's not like people knowingly bought a 6000 SUX...

The VAG stuff was sold as standards compliant, when they cheated on the test. The compensation basically makes up for the loss in value of the car.

If you've got a problem with air pollution, then take it up with the Government to pursue VW for cheating on NOx levels. At least the Americans made VW buy affected cars back and crush them so they couldn't carry on polluting for another 10 years.

Chill out pal. I was joking. My last 2 cars were Audi and VW.
Try an emoji to indicate you are joking next time. Like this :

Pal.

I thought I signed up but checking my emails I appear not to have done so...

Either way, it works out to about £2k per person, looks like the lawyers get a separate payout.

I bought my Audi about a month after the cut off date, but way before the scandal was revealed.

Thankfully I was dubious about the "update" and refused to have it done. I remember reading on the FB group of countless people having problems after the update.

It doesn't work out a lot though, the devaluation of the cars after update will have likely exceeded 2k by some margin.
