I've been looking forward to this, especially since it's now a stand-alone game. The only prerequisite is that you own Skyrim, but you don't need to have it installed.

Enderal: Forgotten Stories is a total conversion mod for Skyrim that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.

I might have to check this out. Skyrim mechanics were very good, but the animation is starting to look a little dated.

From what I read this has better narrative than most AAA games, and from the first 10 minutes I played, that seems to be the case. I will definitely play it this year.

Oh yeah, I played this. It was alright. There was a really good massive city in it iirc. Story was... Meh(can't tell you a single thing about it other than you find an underground train I believe), but it had a few interesting characters. I don't think I finished it though as I lost interest.
EDIT- a tually I remember, I stopped because they were going to add some factions to the game so I waited and just never went back to it.

Has it been improved? The mod was like Mass Effect had sex with Skyrim and the product was slightly retarded.

Yes, If I could be bothered(which I can't) to look through the skyrim thread, I'm pretty sure I compared the story unfavourably as a cheap Mass Effect copy.

Hah, three years ago I posted here that I will play it "this year", but I only started playing it now, finally. Since the SE conversion is out and patched.

So far I played only first hour but it already seems lot more interesting/intriguing than Skyrim.

Started playing last weekend, it's been good so far. Have to run it in windowed mode as it's not supporting widescreen formats but it's not a big issue
The beginning is much harder than vanilla Skyrim. Using a couple of mods to slightly tweak stuff but not really affecting difficulty too much

yeah I've set it to 2730 x 1536 and it plays fine now. Any wider and some bits of the menu's are missing and couldn't get passed the character creation bits

8 hours in. So far so good. It’s funny how it runs on Skyrim engine and uses its assets, but actually reminds me more of Kingdom Come than Skyrim. The world design is so distinctly unSkyrimlike. And it even has a dice game!

Very interested in this. Have installed and when I click start from its launch window I get punted into the Skyrim steam page and nothing else happens. Thoughts please?

I've just installed it and run it successfully - aside from the usual driver updates etc. I assume you noticed that it doesn't work if you only have Skyrim: Special edition?

Hell of an opening... really got my attention!

Which version of Skyrim do I need to install to be able to play this then?

I am downloading Skyrim SE and the MOD SE, correct?

So it looks like I've bought Skyrim twice (PC & Switch) but not through Steam. Not sure I can do so again; would take it over £100 for the game if I did.

You do not need any Skyrim installed at all. You just need to own it in your steam account. If you own the SE version of Skyrim, just go to enderal page and download it:

It is completely standalone.

Skyrim on PC, even if you bought it on non-Steam shop, requires Steam. If you own Skyrim on PC, then you have it on steam.
If you have the SE version, go to the page above and download it from there.
If you have standard version, you can download it from here

However, I strongly recommend the SE version. It is more stable and runs better (I am running Enderal in 4K 60fps maxed out, and had zero crashes in 15 hours playtime).
