Update at bottom of post - Jump to that!

The upstairs shower has developed a leak from somewhere. We very rarely use it (just our daughter) and so have no idea how long it's been going on for, but there's a considerably amount of black mould that's built up caused by the constant dripping

The back plate doesn't seem to be attached to the wall and i can get a screwdriver behind it, however it seems to be fixed in place by the 2 sticky out things (very technical!)

I've managed to get the main covers off, but can't find any other method to get the next bits off, to then remove the backplate and see where the leak is coming from.

It's weird as it's threaded on the inside, which suggests it screws onto something, but i've tried my best with no success, unsure if it's just 14 years (estimate) worth of silicone and water that's caused it to corrode. I'm reluctant to attack with WD40 because i imagine there's a decent bit of rubber/plastic

UPDATE - Shower front plate is off. Thank you mole grips!

I've now located the source of the drip. It's coming from the point where the protruding pipe comes out of the larger fitting. I can't see an obvious bit which may need tightening to restrict it, now anywhere that could have a washer needing to be replaced.

For reference, the top valve (where the leak is coming from) is the one which controls whether it's the shower head or the bath tap.

On one of ours the shower valves screw into the body (hence the threads inside).

Around the outside of each of the valves, chrome part, we have a trim ring which unscrews. The trim plate against the tiles has quite a lot of mastic behind the perimeter, but should pull off with some force and perhaps cutting behind with dental floss.

Ok, have managed to get another bit off (exciting stuff isn't it!)

From some googling, i believe this is called a Water flow Cartridge?

I'm unsure if there's anything i can do, without having to cut away a bit of the plasterboard/filler at the back to get access to that nut to loosen.

@200sols I'm tagging you as i'm sure i've seen plumber-y advice from you in the past!

Before you go any further make sure you've switched off the water!

I don't see any manufacturer's name on the faceplate so finding a manual and spares could be tricky

Yeah, absolutely no information anywhere which is annoying. I was hoping i would hit a point where it'd just be a standard part.

is that a circlip on the shaft, remove and see if it pulls out, or a set of grips on the threads with a cloth under the jaws or you can get a crows foot spanner on the nut

Yeah have removed the circlip but no movement.
The protruding shaft will rotate which turns on the shower/tap but removing the circlip doesn’t seem to have done anything.

Will allow the shaft to be removed from the back of the valve, if it’s leaking from this valve and not from any outlets it will be orings
