Now forgive me if I'm late to the party here but the above two cars are of interest to myself as my next purchase and apologies if a thread has been started to argue these two.

Loosing my car knowledge over the years I'm trying to find out which is the best model of either and also the for and against for both.

Audi S3 I like the Virtual Cockpit but what other options are best to look out for?. Which engine is best, gearbox etc as I know they've changed from auto 6 speed to a 7 and also included a petrol particular etc.

A35 I'm set on the Premium Plus. Only because it seems to have everything you ever need in a car.

I have a budget of approx £30k.

Any help would be appreciated or even alternatives I haven't considered.

Presumably a £30k Audi S3 is going to be the previous generation car from 2013.

On this basis, the A35 is the obvious choice but the M135i is also worth a look. Whatever the answer, it isn't the S3 at this money.

I've seen one at Audi Oldham for £27k. 2018 plate with 6k miles and 1 owner.
Are you saying these are old tech from 2013 hence the reason to avoid?

Yes, this is exactly what I am saying.

The Audi A3 was produced from 2013 to 2020, whereas the A Class is 2018 to present and the 1 Series 2019 to present. They are therefore comparable really to the 2020 onwards A3, of which I doubt you'll find an S3 for £30k.

Cheers Fox. I hadn't realised.
Glad I've asked. thank you

Perhaps I'm getting old, but I'd much prefer something a bit less 0-60 and much more comfy and wafty than a hot hatch. Yes they're quick but that's very situational whereas a sofa seat will keep your buttocks cosy at all times :p

which is why I have considered an A250. Still has a small amount of oomph to keep you happy.
But then the devil in me says why compromise

What do you drive at the moment? Don't underestimate current cars, even an A250 will be pretty rapid. It's all about context though, an A35 will be very different depending on if you come from a Golf GTI or a 1.6 diesel focus for example.

When I say waft, I was talking more about a 5 series / E class kind of thing.

How many people who want a hot hatch don't realise that actually what they want is a 5 Series, but hadn't thought about it until someone on a forum suggested it?

I'm going go with '0' :p

I mean, I did write my explanation in my previous post, the post you quoted was a clarification.

Did you not read my first post?

I don't really understand your point. I too would prefer a 5 Series to an hot hatchback, which is why I have a 5 Series not a hot hatch. But I don't really understand why this means the OP should want one as well

My point was that £30k puts a lot of options on the table, if OP is set on a HH then have at it, but you can still get a lot of performance and a lot more car for that money. That's all :)

So I've never been a fan of BMW. I don't find them attractive to look at.

I'm currently driving a 2019 Mini Cooper D. It's been a stop gap after selling a previously owned 2019 Cooper S.

Circumstances have changed and now looking to buy a me car. As (other than my daughter) their will only be me and my golf clubs in it
