Losing phone - How to best sort it for accounts? (Google/Samung)

Hi,

I thought I lost my phone at the weekend which was horrible on a hangover.

Anyways, I was trying to login on my mate's laptop to access my details/find my mobile etc however I realised I had set up Two-Step Verrification...which seems to have shot me in the foot a bit as it needed my phone to let me in (sending me a code).

Weird question but maybe I need to switch this off? What's the best way to sort out a new phone if I lose my current one?

Apologies, it doesn't happen to me so I am a bit lost.

If on android Find My Device - Google

Worked wonders last week trying to find my wife's phone that our little one had hidden away

Also, another key reason why you should keep regular backups to restore should you ever need it

I used that yes however I was more asking about 'what to do' when I lose my phone.

I seemed to be unable to login into any accounts on another device due to Two Step so I am pondering removing it?

You can get the recovery codes from Google, should you ever need to gain access again.

It is a right pain tbf, as I found out when doing a fresh install and forgot to take down details for the Microsoft authenticator. However it does give that much needed extra layer of security

Ah right. I can login on my laptop so I guess they would be sent there.

Yeah but gathering didn't lose your phone on this occasion? Best write them down now and put in a safe place for keeping
