With the release of NVidia's RTX 4000 series expected in the next 2 -3 months the question for many Gamers, especially those who are old cards, is buy now or wait.

The RTX 4000 and Radeon 7000 series cards by reports and rumour will be fart more powerful compared to the previous generation but will be far more power hungry, 600w reported for a RTX 4090, and will also be a higher, MRSP, price compared to the previous generation, though hopefully no more scalper pricing.
Also, it should be remembered that the higher power consumption may require a new PSU as from the mid-range up you may need a minimum 1000W PSU to power your new GPU, hence the release of the new ATX 3.0 standard with 450w+ GPU connectors.

Will the cost of a new next Gen GPU + possibly a new PSU be worth the performance increase, over the current generation, especially as those prices are dropping fast, a mid range 6700XT, can be had for £469.99, or a RTX 3070, for £529.99?

Will you buy now, buy next Gen or wait and compare?

I voted for all 3. I have a current gen GPU, I will wait and see what next gen looks like, and probably at some point I'll end up with a next gen GPU.

The PSU conundrum is an interesting one, I'm hoping at least one of my PSUs would be good enough for a more powerful card, although none of them are in the 1000W range (I have 4 all ranging 750-850W, from Bronze to Platinum).

will be fart more powerful
quoted for lols

I don't care as much about gaming as I get older so I'd probably buy a RTX3060 today but that's not sufficiently better than my GTX1080 to be worth it. So that implies I wouldn't be buying for a generation or two. By then I'd get to see Intel's offering also. I also don't care about RTX yet, so don't really want to pay RTX tax. Running costs are getting more important too, so I'd want something towards the top of the fps per watt charts.

For what i paid for my 6800xt id have to keep it for five years before it seems money well spent! I think i'll be waiting till next gen or even longer unless some games i HAVE to play demand i upgrade.

I was sick of fps drops so I picked up a basic 3060 when they finally reached a price that wasn't obnoxious. It's doing all my current games just fine. No idea if I'll buy next gen - depends on pricing and whether anything I'm playing at the time actually needs the upgrade.

I voted for options 1 and 3, as I've just bought a 3060ti because I was sick of waiting, but could be interested in a 4070/7700XT depending on the uplift. I'm also not going to go much higher in power usage than my new card as tbh anything over 300w just seems insane. I'll probably replace my PSU at some point soon, just because my current one is around 14 years old, but I don't want to go much higher in wattage

I am looking at comparing the 6700XT/6800/RTX 3070 with the new RTX 4070 and Radeon 7700XT.

My main point to look at is the power consumption as well as connectors, the 3090 Ti needed 3 separate 8 pin connectors, for the 12pin adapter, to power it.

For me is the cost of a possible new PSU + GPU and not forgetting the ever increasing energy bill, worth the performance increase, over what would be a large initial outlay plus ongoing energy costs.

Also more power means more heat which means more active cooling and louder noises as well as larger coolers that will require further structural support, just look at EVGA's 3090 Ti, they included a pully system to support the card from the roof of the case, for sagging.

Very unlikely to purchase a card next gen - Have every intention of making mine last through a few generations, if possible. Though it never hurts to keep a check on things, just in case...

I'm going to wait until the new gen comes out and then buy the older gen card on the MM, when the people upgrade. They don't need to but most will for epeen and that'll have a good effect on dropping the price on the used cards.

 A Pully system?
My bad spelling, Pulley.

I say pulley system as that is what it resembles to me when looking at it.

EVGA call it an eLeash.

Is my pristine, non mining, zero coil whine 3080 FE card still worth its MSRP on the second hand market?

..or is it now dropping quicker than tarts knickers.

I have a reference cooler 6900XT in one system and a 3080Ti in another. Will I upgrade? Probably - depends on lots of factors doesn’t it, price, availability, price of my cards second hand…

Most likely will even though don't really need it have 3080 currently with 1440p 240hz display

All depends on a lot of things though

Really hope AMD don't disappoint wouldn't mind changing
