Build advice for upto 6k budget

I'm in a position shortly where I'll be able to build a machine with a budget of upto 6k.

I appreciate it's a lot of money (it is!) therefore I call upon the sensible level-headed souls of OCUK to assist in ensuring I'm not blinded by shiny pretties.

It's certain that from a cost perspective there's the law of diminishing returns on things like motherboards and cpu's so while I'm fawning over the parts list OCUK has on offer, would anyone else mind having a crack at this too please?

No keyboard/mouse/monitor needed (and for the benefit of pairing up performance to the monitor, it's an Alienware A3420DW).

I had this opportunity a couple of years ago but took too long and blew it, the GPU prices at the time meant I ended up just getting a decent monitor and not upgrading anything else. Late last year I did manage to get a 3060ti. This time round care is going out the window. If it's worth getting a 3090/ti, I can, and will.

Pre-reqs
Quiet as possible but cool as possible (would look at gpu and cpu watercooling)
Approx 4tb of storage (don't need any more)

Thoughts and advice please! I'm excited! :D

Holy moly that’s a lot of money.

You sure you don’t want to wait for the 4090/4080 and or 13th gen?

How long to wait though, i don't want to chance it on a rush for a card. I did that for the 3080 and ended up empty handed for a year.

new CPUs should be out in September and about the same time NVDA 4000 series should start launching might be +1-2 month though

The sensible option is to get a 12400 and B660 mobo and save the £5500 for when the new kit is released in Q4. If you really want to spend then the below build is there for you.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,866.54 (includes delivery: £14.70)

Configure more storage if you need it or go for whatever case you like and change AIO, you have the budget to do what you like.
I like this build. I might change it to DDR5 for OP.

I might drop it to a 3080 because you could use the money for a 4090.

That being said, there’s still a serious chunk of change leftover for a 4090 even after you buy this.

Peoples opinions weigh a lot on there personal circumstance and what they think is worth it to them, same as mine. I dont see PC's as an investment unless it makes you money and all the stuff is overpriced now... so anyway here is just some stuff i like the look of.

If you can afford it and the new stuff is in stock in a few months upgrade, you dont know what will happen in your like tomorrow to next year so do whats best for you.

If you go custom loop you could sink £800+ into that alone.
And that's where the flexibility in budget comes into play. Just because I have a budget of this much doesn't mean i have to spend it, but i absolutely love the idea of a custom loop.

What are you going to be doing with the PC? Do you need a workstation or a gaming PC?

Gaming, heating my office... :)

Some good suggestions here so thank you.

@jammir what sets apart this £650 motherboard from something that's say, £200-£300 ? What's special about it?

but i absolutely love the idea of a custom loop.

I did my first custom loop during lockdown last year and I loved the challenge. Lot of swearing involved and many mistake but I got there in the end. You could easily do a full loop within your budget.

If you want something prebuilt then OCUK have you covered in your budget as well. Running all that power hungry hardware with just a 240mm rad will mean it is not the quietest system.

Most of the component choices available are very good but I would ring them up change the SSD drives to pcie 4.0 and I do not want to dis the Kolink platinum psu without researching its quality but I would prefer a Corsair or Seasonic unit myself.

I just picked because it looked good and you can get a lot of M.2's in it.

When i was getting high end boards for the X299 and threadripper they were only £650 max, now some boards cost £1800 guess its inflation.

This would be a better motherboard.

It’s approved by Buildzoid and has a ton of features for the money. Most motherboards over £500 aren’t worth it.

Edit: my build for you. That PSU is amazing.

Went with a white build as everyone else done black..just to be different.

Haven't put any ram in as the z690 force board is available away for £349.98 and comes with a stick of 16gb ddr5 ram included. DDR5 works differently to ddr4 so I've read and although theere's a performance boost having 2 sticks, it's not to the same extent as ddr4. Done this as G.Skill have announced DDR5 5600C28, and the tighter timings are meant to have an impact on gaming,
so maybe worth using the ram included in bundle and buying this when it comes out...either that of just get some now
put a 3080 in there(though paying a bit more for a white one), as more than enough to drive the 1440 screen you have at present, and you can save the rest by upgrading to a 4070/80/90 when they come out

For aio put the elite 360 aio...didn't know if you like thelcd screen etc over cpu, and you can buy this away for £145 at mo also. upgrade to lcd screen in £90 I believe...I know someone that's done this and sprayed the casing white to match his build(they only do black atm)
Added 3 sets of the al120 fans, as nice and easy to set up being daisychainable..would use a setwith the aio also, and just store/sell the 3 corsair fans...
you could just buy the lian li sl120 aion bundle and buy 2 more sets of sl120 triple packs...save £140 odd from above etc, but below still half your budget so what the hell
If you really want a l8ight show, add the lian li strimmers also

Put ther 12700k in there, as didn't see much point going any higher for the price rise also...

again, 1k psu so should be plenty of juice for a 4*** series gpu when they get released

Storage, all pcie4, 1tb SN850 for )S drive, and 2 2tb firecuda 520's for your storage

If you go black, the board equivalent is the Z690 Carbon(same board, just black), evo case is £10 chgeaper in black i believe, gpu with save £100+, you can get the corsair RM1000x for £130 away on offer at the mo...aio/fans, just get black versions..if you want lcd screen aio, still cheaper buying standard elite for £140 and buying conversion kit than buying lcd kit(also more options then)

If you don't want fancy lights etc, then the arctic freezer II aio cheaper, so def cheaper options out there

Just noticed the 3080tiFE card still available for £1049 if you want to pay up over the 3080...suggest a black build if going for that card though
