Pcie 3.0 X8 is ok for these cards. Its X4 where it goes downhill.
Precisely: the OP's PC is PCIe 2.0, not 3.0, so it's going to act like a 3.0 x4 card.

Not if OP uses the CPU controlled PCIe slot, then it'll be 3.0 x8. It's only if he decides to stick it in the lower PCIe slots controlled by the chipset it'll drop to 2.0.Precisely: the OP's PC is PCIe 2.0, not 3.0, so it's going to act like a 3.0 x4 card.
EDIT: Huh wait a minute, even the CPU controlled slot drops to 2.0 on H81? OP what motherboard are you using exactly?
It's H81 Chipset, I checked the Manual and it states PCI-E 2.0. MSI Ventus
Wasn't sure if OP was checking just the lanes from the chipset. MSI Ventus is the 1650 GPU he was using before. Here:
Ya, getting tempted but can wait. Only this time will research properly make sure I choose top-end chipset MB and make sure Graphics card I choose to get runs properly @ x16 - not a gimped one.Great news. And you now know that you've got plenty of performance in hand once you upgrade your motherboard.
