Seen a few roumours that the 3080 12gb card is going to be dropped, leaving the 3080 10gb and the 3080ti.

Can anyone confirm?, most articles seem to reference the same Twitter post so this could be incorrect

I think it will be one of the shortest lived mainstream gpus from Nvidia in a very long time, I think the geforce 9800 gx2 is still technically the shortest since it was replaced by the gtx 280 within 4 months, but that was a dual gpu card so it's maybe stretching to call it mainstream.

Anyone have a better suggestion for the shortest lived card, let's say post 2005 because the early days were wild.

4000 series lunches in just two months so it was to be expected that some 3000 series production could stop at any moment. I don't see what's so shocking about this?

The 5800X3D will be short lived as well.

Any product launch near the end of a generation will be shortlived.

The infamous EVGA 980/Ti that OCUK took a load of pre-orders for then about six-nine months later it got cancelled never to be seen leaving OCUK to try and sort out the mess.

I bet the 3090Ti did like 1-2 production runs and was done, cant see those being made anymore.

What I found shocking was the makeup of the 3080 12GB a $650 GPU + $20 of additional vram = £1200 to the retail customer whilst draining supply of the cheaper variants that people wanted so they were forced to buy the ridiculously high margin products or just put off upgrading altogether.

To be fair you got an extra 2Gb for the same monies :p as 80 aibs were ~£1200 most of the life cycle regardless 10 or 12 gb.

It was only making use of scavenged 3080 TI chips and giving something to AIBs to sell in high demand, but now supply/demand is sorted and it's going to be completely usurped by the 4080. Wouldn't be surprised that other 3000 chips are also being stopped in order to run down inventories.
