I was cleaning the back of the PCB for before placing fresh thermal tape when this happened:
PCB 1
PCB 2

I felt something give but thought nothing of it at first as I had a quick look and didn't spot anything. When fitting the thermal pad I noticed something was off (literally!) There were 9 groupings in the manual and only 8 on my board.
What are my options…..can this even be repaired or is this brand new card toast?

I presume you think those empty pads are meant to be populated and you think you tore them off?

If the solder is a smooth bump then no you haven't and there was never anything there.

What model is it ? I would Google Search images on it and see if it's meant to have anything there
Asus 3080ti Strix OC, checked on TechPowerup and both the 3080 and the 3080TI have 9 of sets of them little things....defo not on my board any more.
You're braver than me on a brand new card. Have you tried reassembling it and testing it?
I'm in knee deep now so I might just crack on with the waterblock and see how it goes....

Manufacturers do stop populating stuff on retail samples over time, as they figure out what they can cut, so that's not 100% confirmation that you broke them off. Would have needed a fair bit of force.

As above they can change revisions , looking at the pictures doesn't look like it's been knocked off its very clean would have seen broken solder

What did you use to clean it ? I cleaned 3080fe with back pads literally melted on PCB between them capacitors used anti static brush / cotton buds and IPA gently took ages

They look like ceramic capacitors, if they get knocked off (very difficult) they'll leave bits of the end caps still stuck to the board

Yes this exactly. Furthermore the caps are connecting across a big power bus so even if there were caps there in the first place (i'm very doubtful) there is no chance that these will completley kill the card, might limit the OC, but that's about it.

Decoupling capacitors to reduce localised noise on the power planes. We often used to lay the boards out "just incase" then never fit them :D

Looks like the is thermal stuff residue between the solder pads, under where the caps would be, i wouldn't think that could get there if that was populated, unless some was rubbed there from handling it.

Several people on these forums have killed their new GPU by changing pads. There's either a serious weakness or people don't know what they're doing. Either way, there should be a sticky to warn people.
