Why so slow ADSL

Edit to cut the waffle;):

Moved into a new place. 3 weeks ago internet (ADSL) speeds were good enough for 3 people to stream Netflix etc. so I assume at least 7-10 Mbps.

My new connection with Plusnet only getting 0.85Mpbs down!

Customer services tried various router settings/tweaks but no improvement. I now have an engineer coming out Wednesday to take a look.

What could the issue be, why am I not getting the speeds they had a few weeks ago?

Post the router stats up (sync, max rate, SNR, attenuation etc) and it'll maybe help paint a better picture than just waffle on low speeds :p

But it could be anything, is the router plugged into the master socket? If not have you tried plugging into that, failing that have you tried plugging into the test socket? Are there extension sockets all over the place wired up? The incoming copper could be damaged, water ingress or maybe a dodgy SNR profile which needs resetting by OR. Is there a landline connected, have you checked if there's any distortion in the dial tone if so?

Also post the results table up if you input the address here (blank out any personal details ofc)

The router is plugged into the same socket they have always used (i assume the master, it's a BT dual socket that has the filter built-in). There is only one other socket in the house, I don't think it's the master and when I did try it, it had a tone, but the internet wouldn't connect using that socket.

Test socket?
Did a quiet line test, no noise on the line.
SNR Profile? (I'm at the limit of my knowledge here:D)
Don't think there would be any damage on the like, as said working fine with Sky a few weeks a go

Failed filter if it’s not a modern master socket? Line fault?
weird that it's been working fine in the past, guess ill just have to wait on what the engineer says/does.

When on the phone with CS they did a line check for speed and it came back with 9Mbps. Am I right that means I should be able to get that speed on the line?

Did the people in the house before have FTTC and you’ve ordered ADSL? That would explain the drop from 10Mb to 1Mb if the BT checker figures are accurate.

I guess this could be the reason... I may have to cancel and order a new product if that is the case
So turns out that was the issue, I called CS he was going to change it to FTTC for £2 extra a month.
No issues with that.

He then calls back, saying he can’t do it as the website won’t allow it. Possibly no spare fibre ports in the cabinet.

So now I have to wait for the engineer to come out Wednesday and check if there are any free fibre ports available. Fingers crossed that there is, if not I’m stuck on the slow ADSL speed and have to hope he can make improvements.

Beaten to it, yeah soon as I saw your OR checker results it has FTTC available at your expected speeds. So just a case of mistakenly signing up for the wrong product :p

What area (partial postcode?) are you in out of interest? 10Mb FTTC I'd have thought you would have FTTP coming soon, or maybe an altnet fibre provider in the area.

Yeah, madness they even allow it when FTTC is available... anyway just have to hope they can switch me over.
