Wired internet connection slower on TV than PS5

Hi All. New poster here.

I have a Virgin Media M200 connection, which is fine for my needs as there is only me in the house.

I stream content (Netflix, Paramount+, Disney+) through my Samsung 2019 Q60R QLED TV and also have a PS5. Both have direct ethernet connections to the router.

The PS5 today has a download speed of 211 MBPS, the laptop has a wifi connection of slightly lower than this but the TV only has around 88 MBPS connection speed. i tested the speed via the samsung web browser with the virgin v6 box on low power mode so it wasn't using any bandwidth.

Is this to be expected or is there something I can do to improve this?

If I’m correct, the TV only has a 100Mbit port, they aren’t gigabit, so that’s the limiting factor here.

So this may be a case where i'm actually better using wifi? Will try that and see how it goes. Thanks.

My Samsung tv performs better over wifi as that’s ac, so connects far higher than the 100Mbit of Ethernet, so if you have a good signal then yes, probably.

I guess one thing to consider, do you need it to be faster? Ethernet may be more reliable albeit a little slower but 88Mbps is plenty for streaming services.

Given that even 4K content from a commercial provider won't hit half your available bandwidth, the only scenario it will be limiting you is if you stream 4K REMUX content from a local server/NAS, don't do that and it's a total non event.

On some TVs you can also use a USB ethernet adapter to get faster ethernet speeeds, HDTV Test on YouTube did a video about it a while back.

You're worrying about nothing, TVs often don't have quick enough processors to do anything at a particularly great speed, they don't need more than about 30Mbps for every single app they come with to work properly.
