Swapping router but same SSID?

If I setup a router with a wireless network and set a WPA2 password, if I then replace the router but setup the same wireless network but this time with a WPA3 password - will my clients all reconnect automagically?
 
Thanks, I have had a lot going on with my home network recently and some of the IOT devices have not been playing ball, I now suspect it is the 2.4G only devices and my router pumping out a combined 2.4/5G signal - not that I really understand that
 
I don't think it'll be seamless because of the WPA2 -> WPA3 switch. I expect you'll have to manually forget the network and re-add devices.

Separating 2.4 & 5GHz networks is something I always do. In theory devices should connect to whichever band they support but IoT devices and printers especially seem to struggle.
 
As I say I have had a lot going on on my home network, just figuring out now how to do this with my current Netgear Orbi router (which is only a temporary stop gap) - Thanks
 
Hi,
I have recently overhauled my network due to the number of IOT and other "passive" devices I have.
Some devices do not like TKIP, and only play with AES encryption.
Some devices will check if the MAC addy and the SSID match, if not then it wont connect as the MAC addy has changed because new AP.

If I remember anything else I will update this thread.

I agree.
My sensecap m1 helium miner and my Geodnet MobileCM both threw this issue at me.
If I cloned the mac address of my old ap they would connect, but revert back to new mac they wouldn't.

Did you find a solution on the Orbi?

I've got an Orbi and have not been able to split the 2.4 and 5Ghz networks, has given me no end of problems with some IoT devices, I even tried turning down the power of the 5Ghz to low and then trying to connect the device as far away as I could from the router and still had problems!

It's now getting to the point where I might have to sell the Orbis and try something else.
