Pandemic 2.0?

Correct it's nothing to do with antivaxers

Not in this country, maybe. Whether follow on vaccinations of school age children are being attended i dont know for sure. It seems strange though that a number if children in London are selected for a vaccine jab. The UK should now ask for vaccination certs for polio before entering the country

The information in the public domain is that some countries use the (perfectly safe and effective) form of the Polio vaccine that happens to use live polio virus. Well it's being found in sewage (for obvious reasons) and it's being passed on to those not yet vaccinated.

A perfectly safe and effective vaccine that has caused a resurgence of the thing it attempted to eradicate ... Not only in countries where they attempted the actual eradication but also in other countries that didn't have this as an issue in the first place. You could swat a person in the face with a wet fish and they'd argue it's a goose nowadays.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. :D

already discussed - or is that for 2nd dose, now saw is needed.

The real pandemic 2.0 is probably energy prices and the government should be held to account for excess deaths this upcoming winter,
not unconvinced that temp food prices may contribute to covid resurgence with reduced immune system performance, heated communal areas will not help either.

Go to the Library, a brisk walk in the cold winter air, followed by newspaper's, books galore and an hour on the computers. All centrally heated. Masks optional. You can even take sandwiches nowadays.

Yes: "OPV is a safe and effective vaccine that contains a combination of one, two, or three strains of live, weakened poliovirus"

OPV is a safe and effective vaccine that contains a combination of one, two, or three strains of live, weakened poliovirus, and is given in the form of oral drops. OPV has been instrumental in eradicating wild polioviruses around the world, including in the United States, because it stops the spread of the virus by inducing immunity in the gut. VDPVs emerge when not enough people are vaccinated against polio, and the weakened strain of the poliovirus from OPV spreads among under-immunized populations.

Inactivated Polio Vaccines (IPVs) tend to be used because they dont carry that small risk sure but they are MUCH more expensive (up to 5+ times the cost) which is not affordable for the poorer nations that most require Polio vacccines so less people would be vaccinated if only non Oral methods were used.

Live Virus is commonly used in many Vaccines btw. The issue is a lack of Vaccination THAT is the critical factor . Still if you wish to petition the worlds virologists and immunologists to change the status quo go ahead but I won't hold my breath

Are the two dumbest sentences I'll read on here tonight.

The U.K. reimported TB years ago by the cunning ploy of importing people from countries where they are not vaccinated against it as children. This will be more of the same.

Yup, this is a bit of both - London has plenty of immigrants so you're going to have a mix of people having had this live vaccine + people who've never been vaccinated (probs some home-grown unvaccinated among those too).

I'm pretty sure I had the oral polio vaccine as a kid, much less of an issue when all kids have it.

I remember the oral ones. A drop on the tongue of the most foul tasting liquid ever.

Two men - living in the same house - who have sex with men noticed lesions on their greyhound dog 12 days after they started getting symptoms.
Genetic analysis showed that the virus which infected the dog was exactly the same as the virus infecting the men, the report said.
They said they had been co-sleeping with their dog.

doesn't sound any worse than a lot of pet owners who, also, let them on the bed, or, have questionable hygiene standards petting them and then touching food,
infection is probably usually in the other sense, though.

On the plus side I guess cases are leveling off:

After a steep rise in cases of monkeypox in the UK since May, cases have started levelling off, according to the UK Health Security Agency.
It comes as UK supplies of the vaccine are set to run out until a new delivery of 100,000 jabs arrives sometime in September.

Contrary to some of the hysteria on Twitter where people have been adamant this is *not* and STI and is airborne etc.. it mostly has been spread via gay sex, specifically among men who have sex with multiple partners. I guess a combo of awareness of that + vaccination campaign + some of the most reckless otherwise already getting infected has perhaps helped to break transmission chains as outside of the gay orgy scenarios it seems that the R is nicely below 1 and this should mostly not be passed on to others save for rarer case like this.
We've just got to hope the cases start going down soon, so long as it doesn't mutate much then it ought to run out of hosts to infect... if it does mutate though and become more easily spread among the rest of us then it's not going to be fun - in person schooling disrupted all over again.

One thing I don't get is what is going on with the vaccines, they say we're running out but we're also supposed to have a stockpile of millions of smallpox vaccines???

No stock of the UK-licensed product is immediately available. Therefore, the US Jynneos® brand and the EU version of Imvanex® are currently being imported into the UK.
