120mph on the M6, I’m presuming a ban? (Not for me!)

Wowsers!

The guy posts in a motoring subforum stating he can't wait to stop driving... lol

Some of you guys really need some chocolate and a cuddle
I guess people can enjoy a car without driving at stupid speeds something which seems lost of most of you petrolheads here. Also I'd question your actual driving ability since most of you also seem to think creeping 65% above the limit without realising is somehow normal.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what you appear to have taken offence to haha wtf?

I've had something of an epiphany in recent months though, with fuel price and thinking about the environment and how resources are limited I have slowed right down now, and my new speed is 65-70 on NSL, I'm one of those that is driving for fuel economy...I know getting old and boring.
I can relate to this - a few years ago I got seconded to an office 40 miles from home, all mileage paid at recommended rates, after a few weeks of tweaking to find the most efficient speed, I realised I could leave 10 minutes early and stick the cruise at 62mph to get close to 60 mpg (vs 40mpg at 70), "earning" an extra £100/month with a lot less "stress" of keeping up with traffic and constantly overtaking.

I've even stopped drinking during the week as well, it's getting tragic.

One of the great things about driving a Caterham or other small, light two seater, is that a lot of fun can be had within the speed limits and other rules of the road. In fact, going hyperspeed on the motorway in them is the least interesting driving you can do. An early morning, dry NSL road can be brilliant (and legal, and safe).

I’ve done a smidge over 200mph in Germany on zee autobahn. For me the last 40mph, the 160-200 feels proper fast and you sense if something goes wrong it’ll be huge. The issue with big speeds is less about driving skill and more about observation. The biggest risks at such speeds are 120mph brick walls that just happen to be travelling at 80mph. One of those pulls out and it’s boom. I’ve found the autobahn tends to illicit better driving standards. Those don’t exist in Britain in most places.

Is the act of driving at 120mph dangerous in itself, not really. You can what if to make it dangerous, but in a fast car it really is easy and effortless. The danger comes mainly from others who won’t be expecting it but the onus is on the person doing it not those around them, outside of Germany of course.

I can’t condone big speeds on busy British roads.

Yup that's certainly right. A lot of German Autombahns that are de-restricted are two lanes, and that can become very dangerous very fast. You get a lot of lorries and cars who don't go over 130 and they will pull out and you will have to slow down very fast. The 3-4 lane 'bahns around the west of the country and usually very busy, bumpy and you'll get people piling into the back of you even if there are loads of cars right ahead. It's pretty stressful at times actually. Lets not even get into what they are like when it rains. Appaling visability and very bad drainage, yet people still bomb along at 200.

I often drive long distance in the evenings on those two laner's and it does cut the journey time if you're cruising at 160-200 km'h for sure, but sucks fuel if you do it too much. Lots of German's don't care bout that though because a lot of those driving silly speeds have company cars and fuel cards.

German driving test is much more stringent than the UK. You have to take a first aid course, theory, practal and there are a certain number of hours you must have before you can take the test. You must also drive at night, wet weather and on Autobahns. That's half the reason for better standards. But German's are generally extremely impatient, and don't tollerate people who don't follow rules. So I guess that explains a bit of the driving style. Having said that, driving in cities here is pretty bad.

Not sure what runflats you use, but everyone I've ever talked to that's had them as a flat has said they don't last long and that's at normal speeds.
Eagle F1s on my Estate never went in my uears running them but the Bridgestone Excellence that were fit when I purchased were prone to popping due to being so stiff.

Also run Turanzas on there, no pops just didn't last long if I recall..

Noticed a few brands are bringing out a new self-healing/sealing tyre model - no idea how good they are.
Welcome to the future :)

I've never actually had a car with ghem on, I've just heard stories that they don't last as well as advertised.

I'd never say I didn't realize I was doing 100mph. But you might certainly hear me say that I thought it wasn't dangerous.
