Leaking Shower Question

Hello,

I have a shower that runs from the taps and has a faceplate with hot and cold control knows (see below picture).

When in operation, water seems to run out from under the lower temperature control.

I presume these means something has failed...

- so is it just a case of working out how to remove the knobs and faceplate and then I guess changing a cartridge (at but like a tap would have)? Or will there be something else I need to do?

- if water is leaking (during operation) out of the front of the faceplate, am I also likely to have water leaking behind the wall too?

I've never touched a shower like thus before... so need any advice I can get!

Thanks

I'd figure out the faceplate and get comfortable with removing it to see what the craic is. I'd also work ASAP on the basis it may leaking somewhere really bad.

Don't say that... it has been like it for about 6 months and I only thought to ask the question now!

The shower is on the ground floor and backs onto the hallway.. so sign of any water issues.. but i guess that is no guarantee of no issues. Guess I'd better take apart tomorrow.

Thanks, the bars do unscrew, and once circlip and two nuts later the "cartridge?" Is uncovered.

Turning the shower on and it is clear that water is appearing around the top of the cartridge (image below).

So what now? Turn the water off (hot and cold) and uses a shocking great spanner to get it out?

Or is there more to it than that?

Also, is there a way to indentify the replacement cartridge that will be needed without removing the old one?

Thanks

Big silver backplate should prise off and give better access to the cartridge, then big socket and unscrew is my vote
MIGHT be able to just replace an o-ring if lucky

Well. Finally got the cartridge out. It seems it is a Bristan cartridge and just pulls out. The backplate stays in place.

So I now have a part number, but problem is...

1) no where has a cartridge in stock for today. Will need to wait a few days.

2) I cannot isolate the hot and cold feed to the shower without isolating the whole house.

So guess I will need to put the current cartridge back whilst I wait.

The issue is however... that the rear washer is destroyed (see below image)..

if this washer is destroyed.. do we think it will leak? I can see how it will, as it seems to be a sealed unit. And i presume the rear washer is just to keep the spindle out of the water?

Thoughts?
