My Inno3D Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 twin x2 had poor application of thermal paste from the factory, so took it apart and repasted it. Then my memory was overheating, upon inspection I had torn one of the thermal pads. I then ordered some Thermal Grizzly Minus 8 1mm and 0.5mm to cover my bases.
I tried the 1mm first and they were too thick, trying the 0.5mm my memory was overheating due to minimal contact on the pads. I had bought 2x strips of each thickness, so took the remaining 1mm pad and used an old round bottle with no embossing to compress the pad to 0.7mm (which I had read is the correct thickness), finally after more than a few attempts to get the card reassembled with the pads it was working properly. For all my efforts, I was rewarded with a 5C drop in core temps, was it really all worth the faff and worry it caused me, am not too sure.
