New Graphics Card

Question - At that price range it might be nice to wait a couple of months, is that possible for you? The next gen should be starting to come out around then, dropping a lot that are currently 6-700 down to nearer the 500 mark as their replacements will be coming out. Any lower priced ones don't normally come out until later. I think buying now at that price level is a bad choice, unless you really have to.

As above if you can wait it might be worth it (either to buy the next gen cards or hope for reductions in the price of current gen) otherwise this is a good card for slightly over £500, (with some free games) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...16gb-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-19y-pc.html

I'm in the same dilemma. Just bought all my components for Zen3 build apart from the GPU. Didn't want Zen4 as didn't want to be an early adopter for everything in my build. Currently looking at RX6800XT, RX6900XT or RX6950XT. Struggling over which one and also do I buy now. I still have my old GTX980Ti so this might keep me going until the new cards come in, although not sure about availability straight away. And availability of the older gen cards, they could all disappear quickly if the delivery to retailers of the next gen is delayed.

all down to how much you want to spend, some good deals from Gibbo on these at the moment if you can't wait for the next generation.

You could pick up a 6700 for £300 (noticed recently got a reduction) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1al-pc.html
In the mean time you have a direct12 feature set card while you wait for the 7000 series. TBH you could buy a 6700 and then wait for the 8000 series to come out

Overclock the balls off your 980ti and wait a month.

Budget wise up to about £900, bearing in mind one of my possible cards was a RX6950XT. I'm not too bothered about next gen to be honest. I'm not a serious gamer that needs the newest and greatest to eek out every ounce of performance

If Im going to pick up something now I might as well get the best I can afford. So hedging towards one of these three:

RX6950XT - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-02q-am.html

RX6900XT - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1d4-gi.html

RX6800XT - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1cy-gi.html

I've got a Gigabyte Aorus X570S Elite AX board so the last two would keep it all the same. CPU is a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, memory is T-Force 8Pack 3600Mhz CL16

Thanks for the advice everyone.

My PC died a few days ago so I cant wait to make my new build but I might see if I can wait a while before buying the graphics card.

I want to buy a new case for my new build and if I do wait that means I dont know exactly how much space I will need for my graphics card. If I buy one too small that could impact my choice in graphics card later. Is there a standard for minimum size I should leave for the GPU?

Cases have improved a lot in design lately so you can get a fairly big gpu with 3 slots in some itx cases. The advantage of an atx case as well as room is the thermal performance. Have a think about the size of case that you want and perhaps post in the case sub forum asking for recommendations of the size that you want, eg this is an itx case that can still take a 3 slot gpu and large air cooler, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lian...um-mini-itx-case-silver-window-ca-77m-ll.html

Just get the reference 6950 XT and be happy for years.

I am biased, as I am running that card already hehe.
Yeah, thats what im thinking. This new build is going to last at least 5 years. My last 6th gen intel lasted 7 years so this ones going to last just as long i think. How is the card anyway.
Good deals? Shifting old stock to suckers?

Why? Ive experienced in the past that jumping on the new shiny stuff can be full of potential Issues and possibly a bit of a rollercoaster ride of problems. For me the current generation of CPUs and GPUs is more than adequate for my gaming needs. It will probably last me the next 7 years.

Have seen 6900 for 700 odd quid which is a very good price. For 500 pounds the issue is that any mid/high end GPU isn’t getting proportional discount as the high end sector.
500 pounds is a very good budget, but the GPUs priced under 600 pounds still overpriced.
As soon you see anything over a 6800XT or a 3800 within budget, those cards should last quite a while. Not everyone is looking for high frame 4K and ultra.
Personally I’ll keep my 3800 12GB for few years now.

Apparently there is so much stock in the channel that both companies are going to have big discounts in September. If you can wait a few weeks …

Took the plunge and bought the reference RX6950XT, it dropped another £50. Received it yesterday, its a nice looking card, not as long as I imagined it to be. Just waiting for the PSU to be delivered today and then a busy weekend building it all. Might now be able to play MSFS2020 at a decent rate.

So its been a couple of weeks now and my build has been up and running MSFS2020. It auto configured to Ultra settings and i must say im impressed with the GPU. Flew around canary wharf, as it seemed to be pretty built up and i was getting about 65fps at 1440p in Ultra setting. Move away from the city or built up landscapes i was getting about 80fps. Temp wise i havent seen it go past about 80 ish degrees, even the cpu, a Ryzen 7 5800X3D only gets to about 55 - 60 degrees. All in all I am impressed with the whole build.
