The assault on Bakhmut may have ended going by twitter, but don't know if that's actually true. Suppose we'll find out soon enough.

That's one Russia had been trying to take right?

If so it means they are at least having to pause and re-group, whatever that means, not sure of the exact state of play on the majority of the Russian army at this point.

Things seem to be unraveling quickly for the Russian's at the moment but that gives plenty of opportunity for the rumour mill to churn out misinformation.

I would feel a lot better if Ukraine made a priority of getting that Nuclear power plant back under it's control.

Meanwhile in Russia, more specifically Moscow and St Petersburg people are going about like nothings happened.

They don't care as it's a far away war fought by minorities and still love Putin.

The Russian population as a whole that are left just live in willful ignorance. Russians have always been good professional serfs.
I think the biggest reason for that is the people of Moscow and St Petersburg are not being drafted and sent to the frontlines, so they probably don't have any family of friends missing in high numbers so are a bit shielded by this war.

The ones doing the fighting are from the less desirable areas which are expendable. They have already used up all there special forces and best allies, Chechens etc so their forces are now most poor conscripts with little training.

I wonder what Russias next move will be? Pull everything back to the Donbas (where I assume they have more support) and just try and hold that, whilst pretending that was the plan all along?
I'm guessing Zelensky will want that back as well...
My thinking is they will put everything into the defence of Crimea and try and pull off a truce there with the borders back to pre war.

I cant see Zelensky accepting this though when they have Russia with no real weapons of use left.

Crimea would be cut off from re supply so its all in Ukrains favour for now.

No chance Zelenskyy is accepting this now, he already stated all of Ukraine will be returned. To take the war back to the pre-war borders after all the death and destruction that Russia has done to the country would be an insult to the dead.

The only chance Russia has is if the US agrees and threatens to stop shipments and help for Ukraine if they don't agree to peace. For now, the US seems to agree with Zelenskyy that Crimea is up for grabs.

Even if they are allowed to keep Crimea, Ukraine will cut off their water supply again and it will continue to be a millstone around Russia's neck as the place turns into a desert.

Sounds like the Ukrainians have asked for a black out again on all troop movements etc. Probably as they take stock of the new situation and ensure they don't fall prey to the same tactic while they try to keep the initiative. I suspect it's the beginning of the end but it's not over yet.

Must be difficult persuading your troops to stick to the original plan and limited objectives, when they can press on and liberate more of their country.
