Hi there. New here but glad I found a forum like this. I’m massively into cars! And I am considering a defender 110 dynamic x model. I was wondering if anyone has one, thoughts , considerations for a new buyer etc.

Thanks

Waiting lists for new ones are pretty insane at the minute.
This. Was talking to a dealer at a local show last month and he said 18 months minimum. Which is why people are flipping their recent used ones for considerably more than list price. I saw one the other day for sale at £110k!!!!! Thats a lot for a defender!!!!

I have a D300 HSE X-Dynamic in Pangea green. Love it, every drive feels like an event and its okay on fuel.

Indeed, hence i've bought mine :)

I have directed the gentlemen to the relevant sub forum to induce himself so that he can indeed be welcomed, rather than jump straight in with a first posting asking for something like so many we see.
You aren't the forum bouncer.

Rude innit. Dunno how these people haven't had 10 bells knocked out of them.

You're doing the lord's work, keep 'em in line champ.

Exactly. I assume the sub forum was not just the workings of a person with nothing better to do and actually serves a purpose?

In hindsight I probably should have just asked if he has a letterbox.

I currently have a bmw m240i and a small van, (I do a lot of fishing and I’m thinking of getting a large dog in the near future)

I was thinking of getting rid of both vehicles, and potentially replacing them with a 110, or maybe a Toyota Land Cruiser or something along those lines.

But the price of all of these are just insane at the moment, totally insane on the used/nearly-new market, in some cases vehicles which would normally be £40-60k are now approaching north of £100k, or you have to wait a year(s) to get a new one…

Sadly this is the new normal and things arent ever going to come down. Several manufacturers have stated that post covid they are moving over to selling fewer cars at higher prices model.

Second hand cars are going to come back down to a degree in the next year of two but not that much. The problem is, with the recent price rises of new cars, its not just the shortage that is keeping up used prices.

If the car you bought 3 years at £50k list price for £40k is now £70k new with no discounts then chances are your car is still going to worth most of that £40k you paid for it.

For a laugh the other day I specced up a fully loaded Defender and it cam in at £133k

I bought a 2016 Ford ranger in 2018, for £23k, the same vehicle now is worth around the same (depending on miles) 4 years later lol.

If I’d know covid was coming I’d have kept it, but meh….

Whilst I like the new defenders, and I earn plenty of money to afford one - I honestly think I’d rather just spend £5k on an old truck or something.

It’s also interesting that Parker’s valuations are showing most of the defender 90/110s as being worth between £38-45k (model dependant of course) yet on autotrader those models are selling for closer to 60-70k, so it feels like the graphics card situation 6-12 months ago..

Which car had a list price of £50k in 2019 but now has a list price of £70k with equivalent specification?

I may have exaggerated a bit but VW Touareg top of the range R-Line Plus TDI was £50,635 in 2019 and today its £64,010 for the Black Edition TDI

Biggest difference is though you could go into a dealer and buy the 2019 Toaureg for £38k new (I know because thats the discount I got on mine) but you will be lucky if you can get £1000 off the current £64k list price since you have to wait a year for one if order a new one.

Merc GLE base model was £55,685 in 2019 and now its £67,895 for the same car so a 22% increase in just 3 years.

Again you could easily negotiate a 10% discount off new price minimum back in 2019. Now you can't.

Well if you needed any evidence to totally ignore Parkers valuations thats it.
