Sparks has quoted £660 for a new consumer unit and fitting any car charger I like. Seems spot on given most car chargers + installation are like £1k anyway.
I'll keep my petrol guzzler as it doesn't have OTA updating, integrated trackers and makes a nice superchargery sound. But will probably get an electric alongside it to run every day, they are more sensible.
Just spotted you’ll have to pay for 4g connectivity subscription on the Ohme after a couple of years if it was purchased after March 2020. Avoid imo, just get one that uses WiFi.
To answer your second q, no they’ll not get the charger cheaper than you. If anything a full time charge point installer is likely to have a nice mark up on their installation.
All I said was what you were suggesting the electrician would be doing was illegal. You then said my rules my house... implying you didn't care, but whatever end of conversation. kthnxbye.

Lol @ this sparks. He has quoted me £421.98 to replace a consumer unit (decent tbf, as he recognises it needs some messing with the backing board etc), and then £552.90(!!!!!) to connect the car charger whilst he is there. That excludes the car charger!
Clearly this chap thinks he can charge "electric car charger installer prices" despite "being in the box already".
Random bloke on mybuilder said add £150 on to connect the charger.
Podpoint Solo3? That's a pretty easy unit to install as well, just straight into an MCB (with type A RCD) or RCBO. If they are doing a consumer unit change, that's a couple of hours work assuming the cable run is fairly straight forward at the most.
That said £150 sounds too cheap, its probably £50 worth of cable and a few sundries needed.
